Paperback. The Dominion does not fight for glory. It fights with guns, and patience, and paperwork - and it is winning. The border province of Sablemarch is being ground off the map a town at a time, and nothing the old world's courage or faith can do will reach a wall of artillery no rifle was ever built to touch. Lord Armand Serevin holds the easternwall anyway, until there is no wall left to hold. The defense costs him a generation of his men, and the young officer who had finally given them a reason to stand. The long road out costs him most of the rest. And when it is over, Armand comes home to a capital that files its dead andforgets its living - and to the news that his own lands now lie behind the enemy's line, his wife somewhere inside them, and no one in the marble rooms willing to learn whether she is still alive. So he stops waiting on them. With a handful of men he still trusts and a set of forged papers, he crosses back into the occupied country to find out the one thing the war has decided he is not allowed to know. The Sablemarch Collapse is Book One of The Sablemarch War - military fantasy for readers who like their wars hard, their soldiers competent, and their miracles in short supply. So he stops waiting on them. With a handful of men he still trusts and a set of forged papers, he crosses back into the occupied country to find out the one thing the war has decided he is not allowed to know.
