Paperback. In the vibrant heart of 1985 Atlanta, Ebony Matthews stands at a crossroads. A gifted singer with dreams as big as her voice, she's torn between the expectations of her proud SWATS (Southwest Atlanta) community and the soulful music that calls to her very core. As a sophomore at the prestigious Spelman College, Ebony seems to have it all mapped out - top grades, a path to medical school, and a future that would make her family proud. But when she meets Ki, a talented musician from a different world, Ebony's carefully constructed plans begin to falter. Suddenly, she's sneaking out to underground clubs, feeling the pulse of a music scene that speaks to her like nothing else. As Ebony explores her passion, she finds herself challenging the traditions that have shaped her - from her family's dreams for her future to the expectations of her sorority sisters. Set against the backdrop of Atlanta's rich cultural tapestry, from the hallowed halls of the Atlanta University Center to the pulsing rhythm of the city's R&B scene, "The SWATs: Ebony's Duet" is a coming-of-age story that resonates with the beat of a changing era. As Ebony navigates love, loyalty, and the courage to forge her own path, she must find a way to honor her roots while daring to sing her own unique song. Will she have the strength to chase her dreams, even if it means disappointing those she loves most? Join Ebony on a journey of self-discovery, where the music of the soul clashes with the harmony of tradition, and where finding one's voice means risking everything. "The SWATs: Ebony's Duet" is a testament to the power of dreams, the strength of community, and the enduring spirit of a generation coming into its own. This item is printed on demand.
