Rogue in Velvet

Rogue in Velvet is a novel of 17th century Spain, and the return of Fernando de Venezuela from four years exile in England. He is eager to see the towers of his beloved Madrid although his good friend, King Philip the 4th has died and his enemy, Don John of Austria, aspires to the throne. Valenzuela is a troubadour, a playwright, a rogue. "Madrid is full of rogues, there is no room for more," he is told as he rides into the city. But he is anxious to see his wife Maria Ambrosia, and his two daughters, Isabel and Beatriz, the latter unknown to him. Intrigue, evil betrayal, mystery are there to meet him as he attempts to rejoin the lives of royalty and commoners alike.
