Paperback. The River Remembers is an environmental horror novel set in a fictional coastal North Carolina town where water quality, history, and supernatural forces collide. The story follows a woman who is a descendant of enslaved watermen and who carries a deep ancestral connection to the river. Alongside her is a scientist ally who helps uncover the realities of stormwater runoff, PFAS contamination, agricultural waste, and harmful algal blooms that are poisoning the community. A council member with a hidden past adds political tension as his ties to development and industry begin to surface. Families, fishermen, and neighbors find themselves caught between survival and the unraveling mystery of the waters that sustain them.At first the challenges seem familiar, with fish kills, storm debris, and unchecked coastal development threatening livelihoods. But soon the river takes on a more sinister presence. Strange storms, toxic blooms, and haunting apparitions rise from the water, suggesting that the land and sea hold memories of centuries of exploitation and injustice. The novel draws from real environmental science while weaving in horror, showing the river itself as a force that remembers past wrongs and demands reckoning. The tension builds as characters uncover buried histories of racial and environmental injustice that intertwine with present-day threats. The question becomes unavoidable: what happens when the land and water, poisoned for too long, begin to fight back against those who ignored their warnings? This item is printed on demand.
