Hardcover. The Reverend George Junkin, D.D., LL.D. A Historical Biography chronicles the life and career of George Junkin (1790-1868), a prominent Presbyterian minister, educator, and staunch defender of conservative theology in 19th-century America. Penned by his son, D.X. Junkin, this biography offers a detailed account of Junkin's upbringing, his theological training, and his influential role in various educational institutions, including Lafayette College and Washington College (now Washington and Lee University). The book delves into Junkin's involvement in the Old School-New School Presbyterian schism, his strong stance against abolitionism (a position highly controversial today), and his unwavering commitment to his theological principles. Readers interested in American religious history, Presbyterianism, and the life of a significant figure in 19th-century American intellectual life will find this biography a valuable resource. Though reflective of its time, the book provides insight into the complex social and religious landscape of antebellum America and Junkin's lasting impact on American Presbyterianism. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
