This book of collected essays offers a theoretically grounded and competing interpretation of contemporary Indian economy and society from a class-focused perspective. However, it is also about how the relation between India and Marxism can offer an alternative guiding methodology to rethink the theoretical tenets of Marxism. India as context brings in new experiences, questions, insights and ethics, and in turn transforms Marxism. Such a rethought Marxism offers new ground for contemplating and enacting postcapitalist politics in India and beyond. Therefore, working through the trap of global-local, of thoughtless universalism and clinging (Indian) particularism, this endeavour, while about India, is also not restricted to India, in so far as its insight and significance is concerned. Anjan Chakrabarti is currently Professor of Economics, University of Calcutta. His co-authored book with Anup Dhar is titled Dislocation and Resettlement in Development: From Third World to World of the Third, Routledge. He is the recipient of Dr. V. K. R. V. Rao Prize in Social Science Research in Economics. Anup Dhar is former Professor of Philosophy and Psychology, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar University Delhi. His co-authored book with Anjan Chakrabarti is titled World of the Third and Hegemonic Capital: Between Marx and Freud, Palgrave Macmillan. He was a Fellow at Ruhr-University Bochum.…
