What if the earliest Christians did not believe what later theology insists about Jesus?
What if both history and Scripture point to a far different understanding of Christ than the one most people have inherited?
Restoring the Biblical Christ: Is Jesus God? opens with a bold historical investigation into how early Christian beliefs developed across the first few centuries-long before creeds, councils, and political pressures hardened doctrine into dogma. These opening chapters reveal a surprisingly diverse theological landscape and expose how dramatically Christian thought shifted over time.
But the heart of the book lies in what follows: a rigorous, text-centered re-examination of the Bible itself. Through meticulous analysis of Greek grammar, Hebrew patterns, contextual argumentation, and the inner logic of Scripture, this work challenges conventional interpretations of the passages most often cited to support Jesus' deity.
The book tackles the major flashpoints head-on:
- What does John truly mean when he calls the Word "God"?
- What did Jesus intend with the statement "Before Abraham was, I am"?
- Why does Scripture say Jesus was worshipped, and what did "worship" mean in a Jewish-monotheistic setting?
- What is the actual meaning of "form of God" in Philippians 2?
- How do textual variants in early manuscripts illuminate, or complicate, traditional readings?
- Did the Bible originally teach that Jesus was born of a virgin?
Drawing from over 500 reference notes, this book brings together biblical exegesis, manuscript evidence, lexical research, and early Christian testimony to argue that the New Testament writers consistently teach:
- One God, the Father (1 Corinthians 8:6).
- Jesus the Messiah, a real human being acting as the agent of God (John 8:40).
Rather than assuming later doctrinal categories, Restoring the Biblical Christ rebuilds Christology from the ground up, allowing Scripture and the earliest historical records to define who Jesus truly was. The result is a portrait of Jesus that is historically rooted, textually grounded, and profoundly coherent.
Bold, meticulously argued, and unapologetically Scripture-driven, this book invites readers to rethink the most foundational question in Christianity:
Who, according to the Bible itself, is Jesus Christ?
