Descripción del artículo del vendedor

National Arts Journalism Program, Columbia University, New York, 2004. Paperback, 170 pp.; 28 cm; illustrated with charts, graphs, black-and-white photographs and reproduced newspaper pages. Edited by Andras Szanto, Daniel S. Levy and Andrew Tyndall. In Good condition. Black paper covers with an illustration of Xiaoze Xie's painting "July 2001, H.P." (stacked newspapers) on upper front cover, white lettering on front cover and spine; mild shelf and edge wear with light bumping, increasing to edges and corners, some color loss along edges and spine, mild scuffing, and creasing to front cover near spine. Light creasing to front endpapers. Binding tight. Pages clean and unmarked. [From back cover] In 1998 the National Arts Journalism Program set out to gauge the health of America's arts coverage. The U.S. economy was booming, and Reporting the Arts found a robust interest in the arts. Reporting the Arts was the first comprehensive study of its kind. In it we analyzed daily newspapers in 10 cities across the country as well as three national papers (The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and USA Today), The Associated Press and network television. Much has since changed in our post-September 11th world. A weaker economy has hurt both arts organizations and the news media. . . . Now, using the earlier findings as a benchmark, Reporting the Arts II examines the shifting state of arts journalism. The study revisits the same cities we analyzed in 1998 and takes a close look at their arts communities and the cultural coverage in their newspapers and other local news media. It also reexamines the national press and network news, and takes a look at the burgeoning areas of the alternative press, online coverage and public radio, among other sources of news. Additionally the study includes a collection of essays by NAJP fellows on various fields of criticism and the complicated challenges facing arts journalists today. Contributors include Robert Christgau, Sasha Frere-Jones, Robert Brustein, Robert Campbell and Joseph Horowitz. The NAJP closed in 2005, a year after publication. Contents: Overview (Introduction: Arts Coverage in a New Century; The Arts Take Center Stage; The Dailies: Old Formats, New Challenges); Local Media (Charlotte; Chicago; Cleveland; Denver; Houston; Miami; Philadelphia; Portland; Providence; San Francisco Bay Area); National Media (Defining Their Turf; Alternative Weeklies Enter the Mainstream; National Public Radio; Online Coverage; Culture on Television; Spanish-Language Arts Coverage; Asian-American Arts and the Media; Coverage of the Arts Abroad); Critical Perspectives (A History of Rock Criticism; Subject/Object: Firsthand Knowledge in Criticism; Classical Music Criticism at the Crossroads; Reflections of an Outsider Critic; When Dramaturgs Ruled the Earth; Thoughts on Architecture Criticism; The Fine Arts on TV; Below the Radar: Covering the Arts Underground); Appendix (Methodological Summary; Acknowledgments).…
