High-school writing prompts often ask students to provide overly simplified responses to complicated issues, but a person's stance in the real world can rarely, if ever, be reduced to "agree or disagree." Arguments are complex, with more than two points of view and a range of evidence to consider; however, writing classes don't always embrace that complexity. Acerca del autor
Dan Laird has nearly two decades of teaching experience in public education focusing on English Language Arts and writing instruction. In that time, he was also an active member of the National Writing project, as well as Michigan State University's branch, Red Cedar Writing Project. In addition to being director of various writing camps for middle and high school students through MSU, Dan has conducted professional development for teachers in the area of argument writing for both National Writing Project and Field Progress Education Consulting. Since leaving public education, Dan has worked as a corporate trainer leading numerous skills advancement and career advancement programs. On the side, his music related business, Angry Talent Entertainment, continues to support the arts and has donated thousands of dollars to local public school and university music programs.
Carrie Nobis is an English and biology and chemistry teacher at Groves High School in Beverly Hills, Michigan, and a teacher-consultant for the Red Cedar Writing Project at Michigan State University where she is the co-director of the RCWP Greenrock Writers Retreat for writers in grades 8-12. She earned her master's degree in curriculum and teaching from Michigan State University. Carrie regularly invites her science students to use disciplinary literacy skills to deepen their understanding. She is in her fourteenth year of teaching, and earlier in her career, she taught in Detroit Public Schools and in an alternative high school in West Bloomfield, Michigan.
Dawn Reed is an English teacher at Okemos High School in Okemos, Michigan, and is currently in her 11th year of teaching. She is a co-director of Red Cedar Writing Project at Michigan State University. Dawn earned her master's degree in Writing and Rhetoric with a specialization in Critical Studies in Literacy and Pedagogy from Michigan State University. She conducts professional development for teachers focused on technology integration and the teaching of writing. She is co-author of Research Writing Rewired: Lessons that Ground Students' Digital Learning (Corwin Literacy 2015), and she has published in various journals, books, and websites. Dirk Schulze is an English teacher at Lake Braddock Secondary School in Burke, Virginia, and a teacher-consultant with the Northern Virginia Writing Project. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan, his master's degree in education from George Mason University, and was awarded National Board Certification in 2008. A former Outward Bound instructor, he is in his fifteenth year of high school teaching and strives to make his classroom a place where he and his students can take risks and learn from both their successes and their failures.

Derecho al desistimiento
Si es un consumidor, puede rescindir el contrato de acuerdo con lo siguiente. Por consumidor se entiende cualquier persona física que actúe con fines ajenos a su actividad comercial, empresarial, oficio o profesión.

Tiene derecho a rescindir este contrato en un plazo de 14 días sin dar ningún motivo.
El periodo de desistimiento vencerá a los 14 días desde que usted, o un tercero que no sea el transportista e indicado por usted, adquiera la posesión física del último bien o del último lote o pieza.
Para ejercer el derecho de desistimiento, complete de forma electrónica y envíe una declaración clara en nuestro sitio web, desde "Mis compras" en "Mi cuenta". Le enviaremos sin demora un acuse de recibo de dicho desistimiento a través de un soporte duradero (por ejemplo, por correo electrónico).
Para cumplir con el plazo de desistimiento, basta con que envíe su comunicación relativa al ejercicio del derecho de desistimiento antes de que venza el periodo de desistimiento.
Efectos del desistimiento
Si rescinde este contrato, le reembolsaremos todos los pagos que hayamos recibido de usted, incluidos los gastos de envío (excepto los gastos adicionales que surjan si elige un tipo de envío que no sea el tipo de envío estándar más económico que ofrecemos).
Podemos hacer una deducción del reembolso por la pérdida de valor de cualquier bien suministrado, si la pérdida es el resultado de una manipulación innecesaria por su parte.
Efectuaremos el reembolso sin demoras indebidas y, a más tardar, 14 días después de que se nos informe de su decisión de rescindir este contrato.
Efectuaremos el reembolso utilizando el mismo medio de pago que utilizó para la transacción inicial, a menos que haya acordado expresamente lo contrario; en cualquier caso, no incurrirá en ningún cargo como resultado de dicho reembolso.
Podremos retener el reembolso hasta que hayamos recibido los bienes o hasta que nos haya presentado una prueba de que los ha devuelto, lo que ocurra primero.
Deberá devolver los bienes o entregarlos a California Books, Fort Wayne, Indiana, U.S.A., sin demoras indebidas y, en cualquier caso, en un plazo máximo de 14 días a partir del día en que nos comunique su desistimiento del presente contrato. El plazo se cumple si devuelve la mercancía antes de que venza el periodo de 14 días. Tendrá que asumir los gastos directos de devolución de los bienes. Usted solo es responsable de la disminución del valor de los bienes como resultado de una manipulación distinta a la necesaria para establecer la naturaleza, las características y el funcionamiento de los bienes.
Excepciones al derecho de desistimiento
El derecho de desistimiento no se aplica a lo siguiente:
- La entrega de periódicos, diarios o revistas, con la excepción de los contratos de suscripción; y
- El suministro de contenido digital que no se proporcione en un soporte tangible (por ejemplo, en un CD o DVD) si, al hacer el pedido, aceptó que podíamos empezar a entregarlo y que no podría desistir una vez iniciada la entrega.
