Across centuries, the Buddha's journey has been painted in golden strokes — renunciation, awakening, compassion. But behind that brilliance stands a quieter figure: Rāhula, his son. Rahula is often remembered as a name — an infant left behind, a novice monk, a son of the Enlightened One. But names are only shadows of stories. And this story is not about a name. It is about a path. Rahula - The Son of Buddha is not a biography. It is a mirror held up to silence. It is a poetic unfolding of a soul shaped by lineage, longing, and liberation. His journey is not marked by grand teachings or dramatic events. It is marked by quiet moments — by the hush of a garden, the weight of a begging bowl, the flicker of longing, the breath beneath a tree. This book traces Rahula's path from birth to awakening, from shadow to stillness. It begins within the palace walls of Kapilavastu, follows his quiet questions, his renunciation, and the unfolding of his realizations. It culminates not in death, but in dissolution — in the final bowof one who has walked a path that vanished beneath each step. The journey begins with a question—echoing through lineage, prophecy, and the quiet architecture of protection built to shield against suffering. It moves through the ache of abandonment, the tenderness of motherhood, and the silent weight of a name inherited but never chosen. As Rahula grows, so does the tension between identity and essence. He is taught to be a prince, but he feels like a question. Surrounded by rituals, haunted by silence. His father is revered, but absent. His mother is present, but grieving. And in that space between presence and absence, Rāhula begins to listen — not to words, but to the breath beneath them. Renunciation arrives — not as rebellion, but as recognition. Rāhula does not flee the world. He steps into it with bare feet and an empty bowl. He learns from silence, from skulls, from wind, from the breath that rises and falls without permission. His transformation is not linear. It is spacious, cyclical, and subtle. He wrestles with pride, longing, and the shadow of being "the Buddha's son." He learns that even the desire to awaken can become a veil. That letting go is not an act it is a happening. And then, there is stillness. The moment when seeking ends, and seeing begins. When the aggregates dissolve, and breath becomes the teacher. Rahula does not claim enlightenment. He simply bows — to truth, to silence, to the space that remains when the self is gone. His story continues in the one who listens. In the one who watches. In the one who sits beneath the same tree and begins to see — not with the eye, but with awareness. Rāhula's journey unfolds like a mirror—reflecting truth, yet holding nothing. It burns away illusion like a flame that does not consume. It turns like a wheel—not with doctrine, but with direct knowing. His relationships—with Siddhartha, Yaśodharā, and the great disciples of the Sangha—are rendered with emotional nuance and philosophical depth. These are not dialogues of instruction. They are exchanges of presence. And yet, this book is not only about Rahula. It is about the reader. It is about the quiet questions that stir beneath the surface of our own lives: Who am I without my name? What remains when I stop seeking? Can silence be a teacher? Can presence be a path? In reading Rahula's story, we are invited to walk alongside him—not as observers, but as fellow seekers. This book is not a destination. It is a breath. It does not offer answers. It offers space. Whether you are a student of the Dhamma, a lover of lyrical prose, or a seeker of quiet truths—may this story offer not a map, but a moment. Welcome to Rahula - The Son of Buddha. Walk gently.

His relationships—with Siddhartha, Yaśodharā, and the great disciples of the Sangha—are rendered with emotional nuance and philosophical depth. These are not dialogues of instruction. They are exchanges of presence.
And yet, this book is not only about Rahula. It is about the reader.
It is about the quiet questions that stir beneath the surface of our own lives:
Who am I without my name?
What remains when I stop seeking?
Can silence be a teacher?
Can presence be a path?
In reading Rahula's story, we are invited to walk alongside him—not as observers, but as fellow seekers.
This book is not a destination.

Acerca del autor
Inderjeet Singh Parmar has translated five acclaimed English works into Hindi, honoured at the Bihar Vidhan Parishad and at literary gatherings across India and Nepal. His translations have also been showcased at the Nalanda International Literature Festival 2026.
He first gained attention as co-author of Delhi Beckons: RaGa for NaMo, unveiled by Narendra Modi in 2014, and later wrote Meows in the Silence - The Life and Loss of Oreo, a tender meditation on empathy and the bonds between humans and animals.
With Rahula — The Son of Buddha, he presents a reflective account of Rahula's life, exploring themes of identity, lineage, and transformation. More than a biography, it is a contemplative narrative that invites readers to pause, reflect, and engage with deeper questions of self and purpose.
