Print on Demand. This book of 150 pages offers a unique look at the often-overlooked item of rags. It is not a dry cataloging of different rags, but an exploration of the role rags have played throughout history and society. The author takes a historical approach, examining rags from the time of the ancient Egyptians up to the present day. He discusses the many uses of rags, from making clothing and paper to cleaning and stuffing dolls. He also looks at the cultural significance of rags, how they have been used in art and literature, and how they have been a symbol of poverty and destitution. The book is full of fascinating and fun facts. Did you know that the first paper money was made from rags? Or that the Statue of Liberty was made from recycled rags? The author has obviously done extensive research, and he presents his information in an engaging and accessible way. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…

Ragamuffin (for these may not know the import of their language any farther than they are mouth-pieces of their seniors but for old persons to give themselves to such contemptible manifestations of their prejudices, as have been evinced of late, on certain occasions, within this city, towards persons who serve paper-makers with rags, neither argues good taste nor good sense though some of these, no doubt, think themselves possessed of all the learning of the schools, without having looked within a book and justified in reflecting upon persons of this class, from the polish their own minds manifest in contradistinction to what they suppose a ragman oughtto be possessed of. It is unnecessary to say anything more on this head in this place. I will just say it is only intended a part of this poem shall go before the public at this time; and, with their approbation, the rest.

Reseña del editor
The following poem is presented to the public for their perusal. Though its subject is not at all popular, it must be admitted it is one of great importance. It is not understood by person who are in the habit of looking on the surface of things; and hence they cannot be expected to like beyond the prejudices of previously conceived opinions in relation to those who gather rags, though by the industry and self-sacrifice of these heroic people, (I say heroic, for they brave all the consequences of the aforesaid prejudices!) are obtained the very paper on which is served up that intellectual feast which is so important to that which wraps the sugar that qualifies-their dear tea!
