Fire investigation plays an important role in determining the origin and cause of fire incidents. In many cases of suspected arson, petroleum-based accelerants such as petrol, diesel, kerosene, and other flammable liquids are intentionally used to initiate or spread fire rapidly. The detection and identification of these ignitable liquids in fire debris are essential for investigations and legal evidence. However, after combustion, the chemical composition of these accelerants may change due to heat, evaporation, and contamination from burnt materials, making their identification difficult.
