Front and back endpapers illustrated with full color image of a papyrus with hieroglyphic text from the Book of the Dead. Signature in black ink on ffep and half-title. Frontispiece beautiful color photo of a painted stone stele from the 8th dynasty. Volume illustrated with more than one hundred color and b/w plates, including finds from the tomb of pharaoh Tutankhamen. From jacket notes: "Each volume [in this series] is divided into three sections: an informative history of the monument by an authoritative writer, profusely illustrated; a selection of literary excerpts about the monument; and a comprehensive reference section."
