Hardcover. "The Prophet and His Problems" offers a profound and scholarly exploration into the lives, missions, and complexities of the Old Testament prophets. Written by the esteemed biblical scholar J. M. Powis Smith, this work delves into the fundamental nature of prophecy, examining it not merely as a foretelling of the future, but as a dynamic and often controversial social and religious force. Smith meticulously analyzes the psychological experiences of the prophets, their distinct callings, and the ethical challenges they navigated within their specific historical contexts. The book addresses key themes such as the distinction between true and false prophets, the evolution of Hebrew religion, and the prophet's role as a reformer and critic of the state. By bridging the gap between rigorous academic criticism and accessible theological reflection, Smith provides readers with a clearer understanding of the prophets' enduring impact on Western religious thought. "The Prophet and His Problems" remains an essential resource for students of biblical studies, theology, and ancient history, offering timeless insights into the spiritual struggles and intellectual contributions of these pivotal figures. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
