Such a prospect has led international organizations and the scientific community to raise awareness about, and call for, the need to identify additional sources of food to feed the world. From this perspective, insects qualify as a suitable and more environmentally friendly alternative to meat and other foods that are sourced from animal proteins. However, uptake of the production and commercialization of insects as food has been facing regulatory hurdles, consumer skepticismand rejection in many markets. The main regulatory constraints in the EU for insects as food include the fragmentation of the EU market as a result of the adoption of different policy solutions by EU Member States for novel foods and the lengthy and complex authorizationprocedures. Also, ad hoc safety and quality requirements tailored to the needs and specificities of the insect food sector are currently missing.This work constitutes the first comprehensive overview of the evolution and current state-of-the-art of the regulatory framework for insect foods in the EU, based on a multidisciplinary approach that combines science, policy and law.It proposes a legislative roadmap which the EU should follow in order to make its regulatory framework fit for insect foods in the long term by providinga detailed comparison between the current EU legal framework and other regulatory systems of western countries with a view to singling out the markets which are better equipped to address the production and the commercialization of insect foods. Acerca del autor
Dr. Francesco Montanari is a lawyer specialised in the agri-food chain and Integrated Researcher at CEDIS – Research and Development Centre on Law and Society of the Law Faculty of the Universidade Nova of Lisbon. He holds a Ph.D. in EU law from the University of Bologna and a MSc in Food Consumption Sciences from the Universidade Aberta. Currently, his main areas of interest and research revolve around food innovation (including novel foods, insects, dairy and meat substitutes), food labelling, nutrition and healthy diets, official controls, and international trade in agri-food products. Since 2013 Dr. Francesco Montanari lectures food law in training courses organised by the European Commission for the staff of national competent authorities.
Dr. Ana Pinto de Moura is an Assistant Professor at the Universidade Aberta, being the Director of the online MSc Course on Food Consumption Sciences, since 2005. Dr. Ana Pinto de Moura is also an Integrated Researcher at the GreenUPorto - Research Centre for Sustainable Agrifood Production, where she integrates the research group working on Consumer Perception and Sensory Evaluation. Currently, her main areas of research deal with the use of qualitative research methods to unravel determinants of food choice with a focus on healthy and sustainable eating.
Prof. Luís Miguel Cunha is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Sciences, University of Porto, being the Director of the MSc course on Consumer Sciences and Nutrition, since 2007. He is also an Integrated Researcher at the GreenUPorto - Research Centre for Sustainable Agrifood Production, where he coordinates the research group working on Consumer Perception and Sensory Evaluation. Currently, his main areas of research deal with the application of fast sensory profiling techniques for food products, dynamic profiling, food evoked emotions and food choice criteria. Within this framework, since 2013, Prof Cunha has focussed part of his research efforts on the evaluation of the use of insects as food and feed. Currently, he is a member of the European H2020 innovation action SUSINCHAIN – Sustainable Insect Chain (2019-2023).

Derecho legal de desistimiento
Tiene derecho a rescindir este contrato en un plazo de 14 días sin dar ningún motivo.
El periodo de desistimiento vencerá a los 14 días desde que usted, o un tercero que no sea el transportista e indicado por usted, adquiera la posesión física del último bien o del último lote o pieza.
Para ejercer el derecho de desistimiento, complete de forma electrónica y envíe una declaración clara en nuestro sitio web, desde "Mis compras" en "Mi cuenta". Le enviaremos sin demora un acuse de recibo de dicho desistimiento a través de un soporte duradero (por ejemplo, por correo electrónico).
Para cumplir con el plazo de desistimiento, basta con que envíe su comunicación relativa al ejercicio del derecho de desistimiento antes de que venza el periodo de desistimiento.
Efectos del desistimiento
Si rescinde este contrato, le reembolsaremos todos los pagos que hayamos recibido de usted, incluidos los gastos de envío (excepto los gastos adicionales que surjan si elige un tipo de envío que no sea el tipo de envío estándar más económico que ofrecemos).
Podemos hacer una deducción del reembolso por la pérdida de valor de cualquier bien suministrado, si la pérdida es el resultado de una manipulación innecesaria por su parte.
Efectuaremos el reembolso sin demoras indebidas y, a más tardar, 14 días después de que se nos informe de su decisión de rescindir este contrato.
Efectuaremos el reembolso utilizando el mismo medio de pago que utilizó para la transacción inicial, a menos que haya acordado expresamente lo contrario; en cualquier caso, no incurrirá en ningún cargo como resultado de dicho reembolso.
Podremos retener el reembolso hasta que hayamos recibido los bienes o hasta que nos haya presentado una prueba de que los ha devuelto, lo que ocurra primero.
Deberá devolver los bienes o entregarlos a AHA-BUCH GmbH, Einbeck, Germany, sin demoras indebidas y, en cualquier caso, en un plazo máximo de 14 días a partir del día en que nos comunique su desistimiento del presente contrato. El plazo se cumple si devuelve la mercancía antes de que venza el periodo de 14 días. Tendrá que asumir los gastos directos de devolución de los bienes. Usted solo es responsable de la disminución del valor de los bienes como resultado de una manipulación distinta a la necesaria para establecer la naturaleza, las características y el funcionamiento de los bienes.
Excepciones al derecho de desistimiento
El derecho de desistimiento no se aplica a lo siguiente:
- La entrega de periódicos, diarios o revistas, con la excepción de los contratos de suscripción; y
- El suministro de contenido digital que no se proporcione en un soporte tangible (por ejemplo, en un CD o DVD) si, al hacer el pedido, aceptó que podíamos empezar a entregarlo y que no podría desistir una vez iniciada la entrega.
