Descripción
Two pieces: the larger one measures 11 ¾ in. wide x 13 ½ in tall; the smaller one is attached to the face of the larger, and is smaller by perhaps 1 in. x 1 ½ in. The smaller document is mostly printed, and reads in part: "The District Probate Registry at Blandford" and tells us that the Last Will of "George Mayo of Rockland in the borough of Weymouth and Melcombe Regis in the county of Dorset, gentleman, formerly of Piddletrenthide in the same county." (Piddletrenthide is a village in west Dorset, England, eight miles north of Dorchester.) has been proved and registered. It is signed by R. N. Howard, and of William A. Smith District Registrar. The larger document is an extract from the will of the said Mayo, and reads in part: "This is the last will and testament of me, George Mayo, of Piddletrenthide in the County of Dorset: Gentlemen: I give and bequeath all my property and effects to my dear wife, Jane Alice Mayo, and I appoint the said Jane Alice Mayo the executrix of this, my Will." On the reverse: "Probate of the will of Mr. George Mayo, deceased, dated the fourteenth day of May, 1898 extracted by Sir R. N. Howard solicitor, Weymouth." One horizontal fold, two vertical folds.
