With thorough coverage of theoretical foundations and an abundance of practical tools and exercises, Practicum and Internship continues be a comprehensive resource for students, interns, and their supervisors in the training process for counseling and psychotherapy. The third edition of this best selling textbook has been updated to include a wealth of new material in a format reorganized for enhanced clarity and ease of use. From theory to application, Practicum and Intership guides the student and novice practitioner through preparation for the practicum experience, as well as the experience itself. Tips on choosing a placement and becoming comfortable with the supervision process are presented, as are activities to assist students in data-gathering and pre-counseling planning. Readers are introduced to terms and standards of the counseling profession, crisis intervention strategies, models of brief therapy, and basic psychopharmacological terms. Also included are current standards of national accrediting groups and essential legal ethical guidelines, particularly concerning special populations such as abused children and survivors of sexual abuse. Forms for data collection and performance feedback and evaluation accompany relevant chapters, and, included on disk, electronic copies of these forms make their use eminently easier and more practical.
