It might assist us in the practical reading of the great prophecy with which we are now concerned if we kept before us three principal lines of thought:-- I. The moral warnings, such as are in the great arraignment of the first five chapters; the warning of the uselessness of external religious ceremonies when divorced from the inner moral life. II. The Theocratic teaching.--The aspects of the Divine nature most prominent in Isaiah's writings are those of Majesty and Holiness. Jehovah is a God who emphatically knows the future. III. The Messianic prophecies.--This is the true end and aim of all the books of the Old Testament. They are to be to us as our `schoolmaster to bring us to Christ.'. This is the true practical end of reading the Scriptures: (1) That we should accept His sacrifice, and be accepted in Him; (2) That in His strength we should follow His example.' Efectos del desistimiento
