Brett Lashua is Lecturer, Sociology of the Media and Education, University College London
Karl Spracklen is an associate professor of sociology of leisure and culture at Leeds Beckett University and a visiting professor at the University of Huddersfield. He is one of the co-founders of the International Society for Metal Music Studies (ISMMS) and the first principal editor of Metal Music Studies. He is interested in identity, social justice, subcultures, resistance and alternativity. He has written eight monographs that have had some greater or lesser impact.

Paul Thompson is a professional recording engineer, educator and Reader in popular music at Leeds Beckett University. He is the author of Creativity in the Recording Studio: Alternative Takes (Palgrave MacMillan, 2019) and co-author of Paul McCartney and His Creative Practice: The Beatles and Beyond (Palgrave MacMillan, 2021) with Professor Phillip McIntyre.
