Descripción del artículo del vendedor

Three volume hardcover set in good to very good condition. Solid boards with tiny- pebbled maroon leather cover and deeper maroon corners and spine edged in gold gilt. Decorative raised bands on spine with a section used for title, a section used for author and volume, rest of bands with decorative scroll. Vol I has gold printing / decoratives well rubbed and off along most of center of spine; Vol II and Vol III still quite crisp and clear. Rubbing and wear along corners and extremities. Vol I has a section of front board with area of "blotch" - as if someone had rubbed too hard when cleaning. Marbled endpapers in all volumes in orange, blue, and maroon. All Volumes have a bookplate pasted on verso of front board but no handwriting or previous ownership noted. All edges marbled with orange, blue, and maroon, showing only very mild fading (see photos.) All hinges very good with no cracks or tears. Interior text block is clean and tight with no markings or writings noted. Papers show only ghost of age toning. Volume I: copyright 1877, 25 Chapters, 672 pages, 9 steel engravings, 52 illustrations. Volume II: copyright 1878, 27 Chapters, 697 pages, 8 steel engravings, 65 illustrations. Volume III: copyright 1882, 25 Chapters, 628 pages followed by a General Index for all three volumes on pgs 629-660. All steel engravings preceded by a tissue guard. Interestingly, the steel endgraved frontipiece in Volume III is a portrait of the author, Henri Martin. A note on the title page of Volume III states ". concluding Chapters by Frederick Martin.".…
