The Polynuclear Count. Este artículo no está disponible. The Polynuclear Count

"The Polynuclear Count" is a foundational medical treatise focused on the specialized field of hematology and the microscopic analysis of white blood cells. Written by W.E. Cooke, M.D., this work details the clinical significance of the morphological changes in polymorphonuclear leucocytes, specifically focusing on the number of nuclear lobes as an indicator of cellular maturity and immune response.

The text provides a rigorous examination of the diagnostic value of the polynuclear count, a technique developed to help clinicians assess a patient's health status and the severity of various infectious diseases. By categorizing neutrophils based on their nuclear structure, Dr. Cooke establishes a systematic approach to blood film interpretation that was instrumental in early twentieth-century pathology. The work explores the relationship between blood cell development and systemic illness, offering detailed observations on how the blood picture shifts during different stages of disease.

This volume is an essential resource for those interested in the history of medicine, clinical pathology, and the evolution of diagnostic hematology. "The Polynuclear Count" remains a significant historical reference for the development of the Arneth-Cooke count and the early scientific efforts to quantify the body's cellular defense mechanisms.
