Print on Demand. This book explores the concept of evolution and religion through the lens of the renowned poet Alfred, Lord Tennyson, a deeply religious man who also had an intense enthusiasm for science and in particular geology and astronomy. The author, a geologist and theologian himself, shows how Tennyson's poetry reveals a profound understanding of scientific ideas and theories of his day, particularly that of evolution. Many of his poems incorporate astronomical, geological, and biological themes, along with other scientific ideas. The author examines in detail Tennyson's view of the unity of nature and the relationship between science and religion, and how this is reflected in his writings. This book will appeal to those interested in the relationship between religion and science and those interested in Tennyson's work and the intellectual and cultural milieu of the Victorian era. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…

IN this little volume have been collected a number of addresses prepared for various occasions, mostly within the last few years. I have had a sufficiently partial judgment to fancy that they might be worthy Of the limited immortality conferred by printer's ink. They deal with a variety Of topics, and bear to each other no relation of mutual dependence. There is, however, one general thought upon which all of them in one way or another have some bearing. That thought is the adjustment Of Christian faith and life and institutions to the ever-changing con ditions which come with the lapse of time. Underlying all of them is the conviction that the great need Of the moral life Of humanity in our own age and in every age is not a new Gospel, but the Gospel anew.
