I think you would enjoy reading these poems, as I have written them from my heart. Each one has a story behind it, things that have happened in my life or someone close to me. I think you can relate to many of my writings in your own personal experiences and re-live some of these you had in your life time. I feel you can read these poems and go down memory lane and re-visit some good times and some not so good times in your own life. I hope they inspire you in a personal way that will benefit you in your every day living. This book was inspired by my grand daughter, Lisa D’Amico.

GONE I saw you across the way. But that old feelin has gone away. You said you still loved me; But I knew it was not to be.
I don't know how or why, but I have no regrets; I guess it was meant to be, that we met. I'm glad we stood the test Now we can put it to rest.
9-11
"9-11" oh what a terrible day. Our freedom threatened to be taken away. That safe secure feeling started slipping away. Terror and fright followed, day by day.
Will we ever have that safe feeling again? Will we - this terrible war - win? Let's keep the "Faith" and believe in "Him". "He" will give us a Victory Win.
A MOMENT
Words and looks a smile, a touch. Who would have thought they would mean so much. A look across a crowded room. Could make a heart - go boom - boom. Why? I will never know. Just know it was and is so.
A TUNE
There are songs of joy and songs of woe; You hear them where ever you go. Listen to the words, listen to the tune. Gaze at the stars, gaze at the moon. Life is what you make it my friend. Choose your own tune, determine your end.
ADVICE
Put water in the kettle, make a spot of tea, Make your home a place where people like to be. Never, never go to sleep mad. Then in the morning you will be glad.
Learn to really like each other, Be more than just a lover. And please, don't hog the cover. Learn to listen to each other.
Take care of the little things in life. Then you will eliminate quarrels and strife. Remember, you are husband and wife. I pray you will have a blessed life.
ALWAYS
I see the sunset at the end of the day. And I think of how you so quietly slipped away. You were here and then you were gone. Like the words and melody of a love song.
Life is full of moments and events. Some seem as if they are heaven sent; Oh! Such lovely times we had, How could I ever feel lonely or sad.
You left me so many beautiful things to remember. All thru our life from May to December. Our love was one of a kind. I'll always have you in my heart and mind.
IN MEMORY OF MY LOVE DOUGLAS RAY MESSEL
AN OBSERVATION
Sunlight dancing through the trees; People praying on their knees. Time moving on, unaware What's going on here or there.
Clouds roll by on their way. Paying no attention, whether night or day. Rain coming down everywhere. Acting as if it had not a care.
And the people live day after day Accepting the things that come their way. Get up at sunrise, to bed at night What a life, it's ok; everything is alright.
BYE BYE
I thought I wanted you, but "I do not". All you want from me is trot - trot - trot. You require too much from me. I can't give you that much energy.
So I think I'll just put you in a fold. And save you, for when I really get old. "Bye-Bye Tread mill" Hello - rocking chair. I know you love me you really care.
BYE BYE
Memories of tears and laughter. Memories of days here and here after. I've got to make some new ones for sure; The old ones are not gonna be the cure. Got to get my bonnet on and hit the road. There's more life out there, gotta find the code. I know it's not here in my easy chair. It's not in people, even though they care. I've got to do it by myself, alone; "Hello Life", I'm thru with this moan and groan.
BYE BYE
I've had a wonderful life, don't grieve for me. When I leave this place, I'll be where I want to be. No more lonely days, no more lonely nights. I'll just go soaring to greater heights.
Where all is love and joy and peace. Oh! What a wonderful release. "Good - bye World" "Hello - Peace"
CHANGE
I changed the part in my hair. You would have thought I'd moved from here to there; I'm not the person I was yesterday. There's a hair keeps getting in my way.
I look in the mirror and oh me! Oh my! I just waved the old me, a fond good-bye. Now when I get up in the morning it's a brand new day. Since I parted my hair a brand new way.
CHRISTMAS
Well here it is, Christmas is here. What happened to the passing year? Time is passing like a thief in the night. Robbing us of moments, it's just not right. But then we must remember, Christmas is not about me. It's all about "Him, that's the way it should be" So let us rejoice and be glad. Glad for the moments we've had.
COME HOME CHILD
We wonder and we ask why? Who chooses who will live or die. Although we know the answer loud and clear And we really have no cause to fear.
For God is in control and we trust "His Way" And thank Him for forgiveness "He" has for us each day. "He" loves us when we are good or when we are bad. When we are happy or when we are sad.
"He is God" We are "His children".
DADS
Dad's are a special people and very special to a son. They are so rare, he dealt us only one. The ties that bind father and son, are very unique. And some spend all their lives this blessing they seek. Dads love in a special way, They don't really show it every day. They are men made in a different mold. And seems that love is sometimes hard to be told. God loved "His" only "Son" so much "He" gave, So our very souls could be saved. Our only hope, is to love our sons, Cause "God" gave them to us: But "Dads" only one.
DO YOU
Tell me you love me, say that you do. Then I will know that I can love you too. Is it too late, is it already December? I think there is love as long as you remember. Love never really dies Even when you say all those good-byes. It remains in your heart Till death do us part.
DO YOU KNOW
Do you know what love is? It's not acting or show biz. Love comes straight from the heart. It's not put there by cupids dart.
Real love is not just a feeling, Doesn't always send your heart reeling. Sometimes it's hard to do. But real love is always true.
Real love is there if you are good or bad. It may bring tears and make you sad. But it will not be withdrawn. You can count on it like each days dawn.
This we know, "Love is Him". And "His" love never grows dim. "He" will be here forever. "He" will never leave us - No Never.
DO YOU KNOW
I'm confused I don't know what's going on. He could give me a call on the phone. I try to say I don't really care. Whether you are here or there.
But I do care, I don't really know why; When I see you, don't know whether to laugh or cry. What are you thinking? And why do you come in my view. What is it you are planning to do; our days are few.
"I'd like to know" Maybe I only think so.
DO YOU KNOW ME?
There is a story inside me I'd like to tell. But I don't do this sort of thing very well. You might not understand my story at all; Cause I'm also human, subject to fall.
I have feelings just like anyone else, you see; But I have them locked up inside and I have no key. I wish you knew my true feelings for sure. One thing I know, they are real and they are pure.
DREAMIN
Here I go dreamin again, About the things I've done and places I've been. Can't do it any other way. And I somehow get thru the day. Old friends, old loves, they were so sweet Not many left, they've moved on down the street. Gone they are, but I can still dream, I sure can. And keep them in my life, my friends - my man.
DREAMIN
I sit and day dream and get lost in these dreams. So much happiness flowed like the sun beams. No thought that it wouldn't always be that way; Just living and loving everyday.
But time passes and our lives change. We get most everything in a re-arrange. Time passes so slowly it seems. And so you sit and live in our dreams.
FREEDOM
Our freedom is so very sweet, But it cost a soldier, his feet. "I can't go witness", I have no way. The soldier said, "I'll go today". I want my family and friends, To be free to all the earth's ends.
I saw my brother fall in this terrible war, They threw a bomb, it hit his car. But we will not quit, we will not run. Because we have the Father, The Holy Ghost and the Son.
We will have the victory it will come. The Prophet of God has said it will be done. So we the people that are so free. Forget not, there are others besides me.
Pray for our boys in that foreign land. That God will keep them in "His Hand". That they will come home soon Then we can sing that "Victory Tune".
God will prevail!
FREEDOM THOUGHTS
Lost in memory and in thought, Thinking of the battles that have been fought. Thinking of all the boys who have died. To keep our freedom and our pride.
We should be thankful everyday, That we can live this freedom way. Working and playing whenever we choose, Free to listen to the good or bad news.
We have so many blessings that are ours. We could never count them in mega hours. Let's pray for our country and leaders too, That we can keep flying the red, white and blue.
FRIENDS
Old friends are slipping away, one by one; Their trials ended, their days work done. So few left, it makes you want to cry. But we all know, we live and then we die.
That's the pattern made for you and me. That's the way it is, and will always be. So enjoy your friends every chance you get; Be glad you have them, be glad you met.
GOD'S KIDS
Sometimes I'm almost ashamed that my skin is white. Sometimes I wish it was black as night. Or sometimes I wish it was brown like the earth. But, my skin is white, made so by birth. Why should color draw such a line? Really there's no difference in yours and mine. God just likes variety, I suppose; But we all get the same sweet smell from a rose.
GOD'S GEM
I am Gods gem, so precious and rare, I know "He" loves me, and I'm in "His" care. Sometimes I may get lost and go astray; But "He" is here to show me the way. "He" will keep me with "His" love, He's watching me from above.
YOU
The trees are so green, the sky is so blue. And all I can think of is I love you. You loved the outdoors so very much; It's as if God gave you a special touch.
For the water, the skies and the sod, You were so loving and so close to God. I can't wait till I see you once more. Up there on that beautiful "Golden Shore".
GONE
I saw you across the way. But that old feelin has gone away. You said you still loved me; But I knew it was not to be.
I don't know how or why, but I have no regrets; I guess it was meant to be, that we met. I'm glad we stood the test Now we can put it to rest.
GOODBYE WORLD
I'll preach my own sermon, I did say; I'll preach it and tell it my own way. Then it hit me loud and clear, You have already preached it, my dear. The life you have lived, the things you have done, Will tell the story, if you have lost or won. They can praise you, make you look like a saint. But the life you have lived tells if you is or ain't.
