Size of binding: 4 1/4 in. x 6 3/4 in. x 1 3/4 in. (thick), [iv], [1]-484 + errata leaf. Bound in full, red morocco, with the spine gilt-lettered: C. PLINII EPISTOLAE LOND. 1790, with eight gilt lines across spine, and simple, single-line borders of dots, around the covers, and on the cover edges, and a more ornate gilt border on the leather turn-ins; dark blue, glazed endpapers, sewn headbands, green silk bookmarker bound in; all edges gilt. Binding is unsigned but of very high quality. Former owner's book label pasted on the front blue paste-down; inked inscriptions on the second blank flyleaf: "Presented to John Ramsden Esq. By the Revd. T. B.x as a small Token of Regard July 23, 1805.", added in a later hand: X [=] Thomas Bromley-master at Harrow. Small abrasion to the fifth compartment of the spine, and on back & front covers. Light, age-related tanning to page edges. Overall, in fine condition. A finely executed example of a simple, neo-classical style binding, possibly bound for Thomas Bromley of Harrow, for presentation to John Ramsden in 1805. The scan shows the spine & front cover.
