Neuware - 'Play Production in America' offers an exhaustive and fascinating look behind the curtain of the American theatrical industry during its most formative years. Written by Arthur Edwin Krows, this classic text serves as a definitive guide to the myriad tasks required to transform a written manuscript into a living, breathing stage performance. From the initial stages of play selection and the nuances of contract law to the technical demands of scene building, lighting, and stage management, the work meticulously details the collaborative effort inherent in the performing arts.Divided into logical sections that mirror the lifecycle of a production, the book explores the roles of the producer, the director, the actor, and the technical crew. It also provides invaluable insight into the business side of the theater, including theater architecture, box office management, and the complexities of touring. For historians of the stage and students of drama, 'Play Production in America' remains a cornerstone resource for understanding the evolution of modern stagecraft and the professionalization of the Broadway industry.
