As a pseudo-science, mnemonics gained considerable favor in the mid-19th century, Fauvel-Gouraud being one of its more outspoken proponents. The BM catalogue lists at least two other works of his on the subject, both published in America, as well as a book on universal alphabets. The work at hand is a dictionary designed to facilitate the memory process, and with its folding tables and appendices appears to be as much a challenge for the printer as it was for the public at large. Fauvel-Gouraud came to the United States as an expert in daguerreotypes, but soon gained fame as an outspoken proponent of mnemonics. Part II is announced in the preface, but no record of its publication is available. N° de ref. del artículo COLM1844AJKX
