The book focuses on implications of traditional and processed foods for autism spectrum disorder (ASD) intervention and management. Numerous phytonutrients and pharmacologically active compounds in edible natural products and diet could influence and offer protection to neuronal dysfunction that occurs due to ASD.
The neuroprotective effects of various fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds phytochemicals, and other natural bioactive ingredients against ASD and related conditions are discussed. Topics such as the possible neuroprotective mechanism of action of these foods and the therapeutic role of antioxidants in relation to ASD are addressed. This book also highlights the scope of using anti-inflammatory agents and antioxidants to promote neurogenesis and improve other symptoms in ASD. Acerca del autor
Dr. Musthafa Mohamed Essa, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of Nutrition at Sultan Qaboos University, Oman and holding visiting A/Prof position in Neuropharmacology group, ASAM, Macquarie University, Sydney, Australia. He is an Editor-in-Chief for International Journal of Nutrition, Pharmacology, Neurological Diseases published by Wolters & Kluwer, USA. He is also acting as an Associate Editor for BMC complementary and alternative medicine and Editor for Frontiers in Biosciences. Dr. Essa is involved in the editorial / reviewer board of various well known journals such as Frontiers in Neurology, Biochemie, PLOS one, etc. Dr. Essa is conducting research on the effect of dietary supplementation of natural products on Neurodegenerative diseases. He is an expert in the field of Nutritional Neuroscience/ Neuropharmacology and published more than 120 papers, 46 book chapters and 11 books. He has strong international collaborations with institutes in USA, Australia, Qatar, and India. In 2015, Dr. Essa founded a new foundation named “Food and Brain Research Foundation” to support research in nutritional neuroscience.
Dr. Essa is recipient for so many awards from local and international bodies. In 2017, July his book titled “Food and Parkinson’s disease” was awarded as best book in the world by GOURMAND Cook Book Awards. In 2015, one of his book titled “Food and Brain health” was awarded as best book in the World by GOURMAND Cook Book Awards and same book was awarded best in the best in the world of past 20 years of awards by GOURMAND Cook Book Awards. In 2015 and 2016, Dr. Essa received the National Research Award under health sector from The Research Council, Oman. In 2013 and 2017, he was awarded as Distinguished Researcher in Sultan Qaboos University, Oman. One of his scientific images won the Best of the Show, Best of overall in all categories and individual as well in the “Science of Art- Photo Contest” in ISN-ASN International meeting in Mexico,2013. Further, in 2010, Dr. Essa received the Professional from Developing Country Award from IMFAR, USA. In 2009 and he was awarded ASN Young Investigator Educational Enhancement Award (ASN-YIEE-2009).
He has over 15 years of research and teaching experience and till now he has received many research grants from local and international agencies in the area of Neuropharmacology and nutritional neurosciences (approximately 1.31 million USD). He has guided 3 PhD students and 9 master students. Currently he is guiding 2 PhD students in the area of Nutritional Neuroscience.
Dr. M. Walid Qoronfleh, Ph.D., MBA, is currently the Director of Healthcare Research and Policy at Qatar Foundation-World Innovation Summit for Health (WISH). Dr. Qoronfleh leads the WISH Doha-based research unit which is engaged in research areas that are of immediate global and local healthcare relevance to Qatar. The research is undertaken with a view to positively impacting health policy. These areas include autism, mental health, dementia, patient safety, non-communicable diseases (cancer, diabetes & obesity), precision medicine and bioethics.
Immediately prior to WISH, Walid was the Biotechnology Development Director at Hamad Bin Khalifa University - Qatar Biomedical Research Institute (HBKU-QBRI). Dr. Qoronfleh has over 20 years of scientific, technology, business, and commercial experience. He has held several senior management and executive positions with increasing responsibilities at GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), Sanofi, US National Institutes of Health–National Cancer Institute (NIH-NCI), ThermoFisher, NextGen Sciences (VP, Personalized Medicine) and SDIX (Executive Director, Diagnostics business, Nasdaq: SDIX) and Executive Director & PI at The University of Michigan – Ann Arbor. Dr. Qoronfleh has been awarded two pioneering grants. As a PI at the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor he was awarded $3.2M to build a state-wide medical researchinfrastructure by The Michigan Development Economic Corporation (MEDC). Previously, while at ThermoFisher-Senior Director R&D, as a co-applicant (co-PI/Investigator) he was awarded a 7-year NIH grant with the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) to establish a proteomic center ($16.0M).
Dr. Qoronfleh is also involved on different levels in Government-University-Industry partnerships through research, technology and commercialization as well as higher education, research capacity building and grant program management. Dr. Qoronfleh brings expertise in economic development and business improvement in knowledge-based economy (Leadership, Entrepreneurship & Innovation) where he also lectures locally and at HEC Paris in Qatar. Dr. Qoronfleh was an active member of the Arab Expatriate Scientists group in Qatar. He is also one of the main co-authors for the planning document for the establishment of Qatar Biomedical Research Institute (QBRI), which was developed incollaboration with leading Arab expatriate scientists and scientists in Qatar (2007-2008).
Dr. Qoronfleh is the founder of three biotechnology companies in the USA (HT Expression, Q-Pharma & Minerva Bioscience), and he is a co-founder and the managing director of the US-based boutique consulting company Q3CG. Dr. Qoronfleh has published over 100 combined peer reviewed abstracts and papers. He is also an editor and an ad hoc reviewer for various scientific journals plus a frequent speaker at national and international conferences. He holds post-graduate degrees from The University of Louisville–School of Medicine, Penn State University, and The University of Wisconsin–Madison.

Derecho al desistimiento
Si es un consumidor, puede rescindir el contrato de acuerdo con lo siguiente. Por consumidor se entiende cualquier persona física que actúe con fines ajenos a su actividad comercial, empresarial, oficio o profesión.

Derecho legal de desistimiento
Tiene derecho a rescindir este contrato en un plazo de 14 días sin dar ningún motivo.
El periodo de desistimiento vencerá a los 14 días desde que usted, o un tercero que no sea el transportista e indicado por usted, adquiera la posesión física del último bien o del último lote o pieza.
Para ejercer el derecho de desistimiento, complete de forma electrónica y envíe una declaración clara en nuestro sitio web, desde "Mis compras" en "Mi cuenta". Le enviaremos sin demora un acuse de recibo de dicho desistimiento a través de un soporte duradero (por ejemplo, por correo electrónico).
Para cumplir con el plazo de desistimiento, basta con que envíe su comunicación relativa al ejercicio del derecho de desistimiento antes de que venza el periodo de desistimiento.
Efectos del desistimiento
Si rescinde este contrato, le reembolsaremos todos los pagos que hayamos recibido de usted, incluidos los gastos de envío (excepto los gastos adicionales que surjan si elige un tipo de envío que no sea el tipo de envío estándar más económico que ofrecemos).
Podemos hacer una deducción del reembolso por la pérdida de valor de cualquier bien suministrado, si la pérdida es el resultado de una manipulación innecesaria por su parte.
Efectuaremos el reembolso sin demoras indebidas y, a más tardar, 14 días después de que se nos informe de su decisión de rescindir este contrato.
Efectuaremos el reembolso utilizando el mismo medio de pago que utilizó para la transacción inicial, a menos que haya acordado expresamente lo contrario; en cualquier caso, no incurrirá en ningún cargo como resultado de dicho reembolso.
Podremos retener el reembolso hasta que hayamos recibido los bienes o hasta que nos haya presentado una prueba de que los ha devuelto, lo que ocurra primero.
Deberá devolver los bienes o entregarlos a moluna, Greven, Germany, sin demoras indebidas y, en cualquier caso, en un plazo máximo de 14 días a partir del día en que nos comunique su desistimiento del presente contrato. El plazo se cumple si devuelve la mercancía antes de que venza el periodo de 14 días. Tendrá que asumir los gastos directos de devolución de los bienes. Usted solo es responsable de la disminución del valor de los bienes como resultado de una manipulación distinta a la necesaria para establecer la naturaleza, las características y el funcionamiento de los bienes.
Excepciones al derecho de desistimiento
El derecho de desistimiento no se aplica a lo siguiente:
- La entrega de periódicos, diarios o revistas, con la excepción de los contratos de suscripción; y
- El suministro de contenido digital que no se proporcione en un soporte tangible (por ejemplo, en un CD o DVD) si, al hacer el pedido, aceptó que podíamos empezar a entregarlo y que no podría desistir una vez iniciada la entrega.
