Dark. Dirty. Dangerous. Disrespected. That is what most people think when they hear 'maintenance.' But
here is what they do not know: today's maintenance technician earns $70,000–$100,000 or more,
graduates debt-free while their college friends owe $150,000, works with AI, drones, augmented reality,
and predictive sensors, and is needed by every factory, hospital, airport, theme park, power station, and
data center on earth.
The People Who Keep the World Running is the book nobody gave you before you had to choose
a career.
Written by world-renowned maintenance expert and trainer Joel Levitt — author of 22 books, trainer in
43 countries, and part of the SMRP Body of Knowledge — this full-color illustrated guide opens the black
box of industrial maintenance and shows you exactly what the job is, what the pay is, and whether it is
right for you.
Inside you will discover:
• What maintenance technicians actually do — and why it is nothing like most people imagine
• How apprenticeship pay compares to a college degree (you earn $200,000 while college students go $150,000 into debt)
• The 7 characteristics of people who are naturally suited for maintenance — and how to spot them in
yourself
• How AI, drones, augmented reality, and IIoT sensors are making maintenance one of the most
technologically advanced careers available
• What CMMS, PM, PdM, TLC, LOTO, and every other acronym actually means — explained with
humor and illustrations
• How safety really works on the shop floor, and why new employees are the most at risk
• What your first week on the job actually looks like — and what nobody tells you in advance
• Why maintenance is one of the few careers AI cannot replace — and why that matters for your job
security
This book is for you if:
• You are considering a career in maintenance, manufacturing, or the skilled trades
• You are a parent or counselor supporting a young person making a career decision
• You are new to the maintenance field and need a fast, practical, engaging orientation
• You are a trainer or CTE instructor looking for an onboarding resource your team will actually read
Packed with full-color illustrations, real workplace humor, and dialogue that feels like talking to someone
who has actually been there — this is the career guide that should exist for every person considering
industrial maintenance.
Part of the Elements of Great Maintenance Management series by Joel Levitt.
The world depends on maintenance. Now you can decide if you want to be one of the people who keeps
it running.

Descripción de la tienda
**Please note our transit times are from the date of dispatch.** We first started out as “The Paperback Exchange,” a chain of physical bookstores where we would part exchange your beloved books for new stories to transport you to faraway places. However, as shopping started to evolve to online shops and marketplaces, we bid our stores goodbye to become “PBShop.” This transition has only allowed us to blossom as we now ship thousands of titles to book lovers across the globe. We pride ourselves in being a community of local book lovers which allows our passion and devotion to shine in everything we do. In 2020 we not only celebrated our 20th birthday but our 1st birthday as being completely employee owned after becoming an E.O.T in September 2019. We are proud to be different and embrace standing apart on a book mountain by working from a virtual inventory which allows us to provide thousands of books that may be difficult to get for your bookshelf or your studies. Working with a number of different suppliers allows us to explore other avenues such as puzzles, sheet music and even stationery so we really do have something for everyone. Life is about being versatile in all realms of existence. If this is your first purchase with us, or you are a returning customer, we would like to welcome you to the PBShop family, for there is no friend as loyal as a book. We are a company who put our customers at the centre of everything we do as we understand the importance of reading because once you learn to read, you will forever be free. There are a whole lot of things in this world of ours that we are yet to explore, which is why we will forever inspire curious minds.…
