Paperback. What does it really mean to belong to the Catholic Church? For many people, Catholic identity is something inherited-a baptismal record, a family tradition, a school background, or a label carried from childhood. But Catholic belonging was never meant to remain only cultural, occasional, or private.A People Set Apart is a clear, pastoral, and practical guide to understanding what makes Catholic belonging different-and why it still matters.Through thirty-one accessible sections covering baptism, the Mass, the Eucharist, confession, Scripture and Tradition, the pope and bishops, Mary, the saints, Catholic morality, family life, suffering, vocation, service to the poor, and the mission of the laity, Luther Valencia shows how Catholic identity is meant to shape the whole person. This is not a book claiming that Catholics are better than other people. To be set apart is not to be superior. What does it really mean to belong to the Catholic Church?
For many people, Catholic identity is something inherited—a baptismal record, a family tradition, a school background, or a label carried from childhood. But Catholic belonging was never meant to remain only cultural, occasional, or private.
A People Set Apart is a clear, pastoral, and practical guide to understanding what makes Catholic belonging different—and why it still matters.
Through thirty-one accessible sections covering baptism, the Mass, the Eucharist, confession, Scripture and Tradition, the pope and bishops, Mary, the saints, Catholic morality, family life, suffering, vocation, service to the poor, and the mission of the laity, Luther Valencia shows how Catholic identity is meant to shape the whole person.
This is not a book claiming that Catholics are better than other people. To be set apart is not to be superior. It is to be claimed by Christ, formed by grace, nourished through the sacraments, and sent into the world with a greater responsibility to live truthfully, mercifully, and faithfully.
Inside this book, readers will discover:
• Why belonging to Christ also means belonging to His Church
• How baptism creates a new identity and mission
• Why the Eucharist stands at the center of Catholic life
• How confession provides a road back after failure
• Why Catholic faith is personal but never merely private
• How Catholic identity should influence family, work, morality, suffering, and service
• Why the Church continues to matter in a secular and divided world
Written for practicing Catholics, returning Catholics, converts, parents, young adults, parish groups, and anyone seeking a clearer understanding of the Church, A People Set Apart offers an invitation to rediscover Catholic belonging not as an empty label, but as a living relationship with Christ.
Belonging to the Church is more than membership. It is a way of worship, conversion, communion, responsibility, and mission.
