Print on Demand. This book takes you on a visceral journey through the bustling streets and claustrophobic subways of 1920s New York City. Through the eyes of a young man named Jim, we experience the raw emotions and anxieties of a society grappling with social unrest, economic hardship, and the looming execution of Sacco and Vanzetti. Jim's inner monologue reveals a man caught between the drudgery of his daily routine and his yearning for a more fulfilling life. He dreams of escaping the confines of his job and societal expectations, fantasizing about a life of freedom and excitement as a traveling salesman. His encounters with various characters, from the alluring yet dismissive women on the subway to his own family members, paint a poignant picture of the human condition in a rapidly changing world. The author masterfully weaves together themes of class, desire, and disillusionment, offering a glimpse into the complexities of the human psyche. This book is not just a story about Jim, but a reflection on the universal struggles of individuals seeking meaning and connection in a world often defined by inequality and injustice. Ultimately, it leaves us pondering the enduring question of how to navigate our own desires and aspirations within the limitations of our circumstances. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…

Quicker and quicker he walked toward the sunlight, Harry Grossman hardly able to keep up with him, but hurrying behind him and call ing: What's the rush? Wait for me; but he walked on, went through the big entrance where the doors had been summerlike folded to the sides, went down the great stone steps. The sun was on the right lighting up the Customs House, the statues around it, the sun was red in the windows of the brick Railroad Building. He walked right to the sun. He said to himself: I want to be in the sun for just a moment. He became ashamed of the thought, said: I don't want sunlight at all. All I want is the subway station, and it's there where the sunlight is. I am going to the subway station and not to the sun.
