Are you going to live — or are you going to live?
Underneath even a competent, comfortable life, a quiet voice keeps insisting that this isn't quite it — that you were built for more than maintenance. Make Yourself is a field guide for that voice.
David Zak makes a bold, hopeful case: creativity is not a rare gift handed to a chosen few. It is the birthright of every human being — the outward form of an idea — and almost anyone can build a fuller, freer, more self-authored life once they decide to stop rehearsing someone else's idea of one.
Part wake-up call and part practical handbook, this book takes you through five movements — Wake Up, Consider, Make, Freedom, and Lust for Life — showing you how to see past the illusions that keep you small, reclaim the creativity you were talked out of, and begin, in a thousand small and deliberate steps, to build a life that is unmistakably your own.
Inside you'll discover:
- Why "safe" is often just a slower way of losing
- The back door out of an ordinary life that has been unlocked the whole time
- How to start before you feel ready — and why that's the only way anyone ever starts
- The difference between a life you were handed and a life you made
- How making yourself quietly becomes the most generous thing you can do for everyone around you
It doesn't have to be this way. It never did.
If you have ever suspected there was more to your one life than the version you settled into, turn the first page.
