The PROMPT (Practical Obstetric Multi-Professional Training) course covers the management of a range of obstetric emergencies. Subjects are presented in a variety of formats to stimulate the interest of participants, including interactive lectures, drills and workshops, to provide hands-on experience of practical skills and team-working in simulated obstetrics emergency situations - including training for communication in an emergency. The PROMPT course has been extensively tested and shown to be associated with improved clinical outcomes and reduced patient safety incidents. The key components of PROMPT training are that it is multi-professional and locally situated, with all members of the obstetric team being trained. This Course Manual has been adapted for North American training, reflecting the latest research and current clinical practice. The Course Manual is essential reading for course attendees but will also provide much useful information for any health professional wishing to understand more about the management of obstetric emergencies.
