Descripción

First Edition dated 1939 on the Title Page. Hardcover. Green cloth boards with gilt titles on the spine. The cloth is rich and green with a hint of fading at the top of the spine (see photo) with a light rub mark at the foot of spine. No dust jacket. Previous owner's period name, J. Hartland-Swann, on the front endpaper dated 1947, Lincoln College, Oxford (see photo), and a bookplate on the verso of the front endpaper. John Joseph Hartland-Swann was a 20th Century British philosopher who wrote An Analysis of Knowing (1958). He spoke at the famous Socratic Club of Oxford, of which C.S. Lewis was President from its formation in 1942 until 1954. Hartland-Swann appeared along with fellow philosopher, H.D. Lewis, during the Trinity Term in 1952. Foxed on the fore-edge, top and bottom edge; light foxing to a few pages, else Very Good or better. A Scarce book which records the spirited debate between Tillyard, a Fellow of Jesus College, Cambridge, and Lewis, a Fellow of Magdalen College, Oxford, both eminent literary critics. Of course, C.S. Lewis is the author of The Chronicles of Narnia and more. N° de ref. de la librería 002732
