Descripción del artículo del vendedor

Famous Aircraft of the National Air and Space Museum - Volume 3 Each volume in the Famous Aircraft of the National Air and Space Museum series deals with a different historic airplane in the museum's impressive collection. Each book is divided into two main sections, the first covering the background and history of the aircraft, the second providing some details unique to its restoration by skilled craftsmen of the museum. P-80 SHOOTING STAR was the first operational turbojet fighter to undergo full production in the United States and thus occupies a unique position in American aviation history. The author draws on official case histories and the personal observations of the renowned aircraft designer, "Kelly" Johnson, and famous Lockheed test pilot Tony LeVier, to tell the story of the brief but eventful career of the first prototype XP-80, nicknamed Lulu-Belle, and the development of the P-80 Shooting Star series of aircraft. The book concludes with a detailed account of the restoration of this airplane. E. T. WOOLDRIDGE, JE., is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Navy Test Pilot School, the National War College, and George Washington University. During his ac-tive flying career, he served primarily in all-weather fighter squadrons. As a test pilot at Patuxent River, Maryland, he flew practically every type of aircraft in the Navy inventory in the late 1950s. In 1977, he joined the National Air and Space Museum and is now an associate curator of aeronau-tics, specializing in naval aviation history. 108 p. many photos and illustrations.…
