Chapter One
In The BeginningThough we sometimes call the Creator "he," the truth is that this is just a matter of linguistic convenience, for the Creator is neither "he" nor "she" nor "it." The Creator just is, yet because we are human, we shall view the Creator in human terms: as a mighty male figure who one day, while functioning in the mystical pastures of his native realm, decided that it would be a fine idea to create a universe.
Needless to say, this instinct on the part of the Creator was not nearly as simple as it sounded in that last sentence, for the universe in the Creator's mind was to be a massive and infinite system of fathomless complexity and power. Such a universe would be a most special thing, indeed, and accordingly it had to be constructed in such a way as to be safe from obstruction.
Such is why the Creator seed-potted the universe as we know it. Seed-potting is a process familiar to farmers, whereby a construct is built starting at the edges and working toward the middle, as opposed to the other way around. When one builds something starting from the middle, one may be under the impression that one is developing a strong center—a steady core, if you will—yet one is also leaving one's creation vulnerable to attack. By starting at the edges and working inward, one is able to maximize the density of one's creation while keeping it safe in the event of an assault from the outside, which is precisely why our universe is not only so dense, but so durable.
Once the seed-potting process was complete, as if from the palm of his hand, the Creator produced an unending network of plasmonic receivers, to be placed all over his new universe. These plasmonic receivers were designed to facilitate the passage of good messages from the physical realm to the spiritual realm. Whenever a conscious being in the physical realm has prayed, that prayer has gone straight to one of the universe's countless plasmonic receivers, wherefrom it's been delivered to the Creator and his minions via their heavenly computers.

Not long after the universe's birth, there existed mystical, immortal entities that were so different from us that our brains could not accurately envision them. These were cryptic, ancient beings, well beyond any present earthbound conception of what it means to be a living thing.
Despite their differences from us, these entities (these forms of life-not-as-we-know-it) had goals that we can surely relate to. Their consciousness was devoted to wrangling with life's many mysteries, and they happened to be sincere and able searchers. Among their many quests and discoveries was one epiphany that changed the very course of existence:
These ancient minds discovered DNA.
Though this discovery ran thick with promise, seeing as DNA can teach us so much about our universe, it also brought with it a dark shade of disappointment, for before long the ancients observed that DNA was nowhere near fulfilling its immense potential. If only it were able to proceed on its natural course, DNA could be a wellspring of developmental occurrences. Of particular importance was the fact that, within its mysterious strands, DNA held the very plan for something these immortals had never conceived of: the hereafter!
Entering the hereafter was perceived by the immortals as being highly important, for according to the plan for the hereafter found in DNA, the afterlife was an invaluable forum wherein beings could learn and grow before returning to life. More importantly, in the course of their learning and growth, the beings could develop inner goodness, and cleanse their essences of that troubling thing known as evil.
So what alteration, what possible change in the structure of living beings, could help to unleash the enormous possibilities offered by DNA, thus setting the Creator's essential plan into motion?
After pondering this question for a great deal of time and with a great deal of intensity—and experimenting with the creation of many different failed life forms intended to carry out the Creator's mission—the mystic searchers finally discovered the missing link. By utilizing the key they came upon, they would be able to turn existence into a vehicle in which DNA could thrive, a vehicle of sheer intelligence and progressiveness.
Life could no longer be the way it was then. From that point forward, for life to be of value, it had to be carbon-based. For only carbon-based animals could progressively intermingle with the conditions existent in the Creator's universe. Stated more simply, only carbon-based life forms could die and enter the hereafter, then be reborn in the world of living things. In a universe replete with carbon-based life forms, there would be no end to the growth and progress! And the fight against evil would be strong.
Up until then, as a result of how dangerous life was at the time, carbon-based beings could not exist (could not, one might say, serve as a proper "host" for the Creator's plan) because their lifecycles would spin too rapidly. In other words, they would live too briefly and die too quickly. But now that the Creator's plan was conceivable to the living, it had to be carried out, and all life forms would simply have to adapt.
Thankfully, the question of effectively utilizing DNA's potential had been answered. However, frustratingly for these mystical ancients, there was still a question as to how it could be done.
Surely you've heard about the "Big Bang"? Well, my fellow travelers, this was it. Sheer life was sprayed in all directions, and much of it landed at our seed-potted universe's Outer Edges. Life not as we know it had collected brown, black, dwarfs collapsed stars so dense even a tablespoon weighed thousands of tons and induced the "Big Bang" with all of the elements to support life as we know it.
After an unthinkable amount of time went by, the universe which we now occupy, a race of carbon-based living creatures occupied the Outer Edges, and not only were these creatures carbon-based, they were possessed with extraordinary capabilities.
It's well known that present-day humans use less than 10 percent of their brains. Our ancient carbon-based ancestors, however, used 100 percent of their brains. This means their minds were whirlwinds of pure psychic energy. The truth is, we cannot fully appreciate what it is like to have that much brainpower, and we must simply accept that the ancients possessed psychic abilities that defy our wildest imaginings.
From the frontal lobes of the ancients' brains came mighty charges of electromagnetic energy, charges which could so strongly interact with the greater electromagnetic field that, with the aid of small propulsion units, individuals could actually will themselves to fly! The electromagnetic aura that surrounded every individual (and surrounds each and every one of us today) was of great assistance in facilitating this process, as carbon-based life forms are unique in the strength of their bodies' attachments to their auras.
Fortunately, the more advanced entities among the early ancients knew of a rare natural condition that the Creator had built into the universe through DNA. It was called the cascade effect. Simply stated, the cascade effect dictates that pinpointed changes in the physical universe can drastically alter the universe's future. For example, if one were to travel millions of years back in time and walk around an empty field, even though one would be interacting with no other people, one's interaction with the air, the trees, and the grass (among countless other things) would set off uncountable changes that rippled through time, entirely altering the future of existence.
To make the deep and necessary switch from a system of non-carbon-based life forms to a system of carbon-based life forms, the ancient mystics selected a planet and blasted it to its rawest state. Though on the surface this may sound like a destructive course of action, due to the universal principles of the cascade effect, the ancients were actually able to release an extreme amount of possibilities into the living world as the primordial tides started life.
This occurred because the Creator's primary interest is to sustain the existence of living things. When a natural environment finds itself reduced to its rawest state, it comprehends that a disaster has occurred. Accordingly, aided by DNA's extreme intelligence, the cascade effect will kick in as an emergency system that spreads dense life about the disaster stricken environment. Those who dwell on planet Earth, amid so many different forms of life, witness the results of the cascade effect on a daily basis.
Indeed, in the deep, dark past of this mysterious planet, our ancient relatives lived like creatures of true magic. Unfortunately, however, the cascade effect had brought more than just good possibilities into being. As our tale shall soon reveal, along with the good traits came plenty of bad and predatory ones.
Chapter Two
The Dawn of Ancient EvilJust as the distant corner of the universe where the Ancients now reside was coming to fruition, a large yet quiet group of ancient travelers was cruising about the Outer Edges. Conversation did not come easily to these travelers, nor did other forms of basic interaction, such as touching, smiling, or laughing. These were the most ancient of carbon-based beings, beings who, despite some similarities to us, were unlike anything anybody presently on Earth has ever seen. Their physical forms defy description, yet it is true to say that their faces were always small, tight, and serious (except for their large foreheads, which hinted at the reptilian brains within their skulls).
As the long and thick procession of wanderers snaked about the land beneath a purple night sky, the hooded leader of the group addressed the follower just behind him. He did so without thinking to turn around:
"I have thoughts I'd like to share with you."
These words, though delivered quietly (almost silently), sent an electric wave of shock through every being that flew behind the leader. The very concept of one being electing to share his or her thoughts with another being was not only unheard of, but before that moment, it had been unimaginable.
The follower who floated nearest to the leader hesitated for a very long time before opening his mouth to reply. And even after his lips parted and his mouth came open, he spent many more moments formulating his words.
"I will ... listen to your thoughts."
The leader's head dipped toward the ground, his propulsion unit slowing down as his thoughts overwhelmed him. Finally, as breath rushed from his lungs, he said to the being behind him, "I wish to turn my head toward the sky and ask for riches."
Upon hearing this, all the ancients within earshot gasped and stirred. What unthinkable notions was their leader toying with? What kinds of events would characterize their future?
All at once, the leader stopped moving, and with equal rapidness, all those behind him stopped as well. Then, in a never-before-seen gesture of connectedness, the leader turned his propulsion unit around and faced everybody else. So frightening was the sight of his eyes that many of the followers quickly turned away.
"In my dreams, I received the notion that if we turn to the sky and ask for water, there will be water. Should we turn to the sky and ask for grapes, there will be grapes. If rest shall be what we require, then we must only direct our inquiry toward the sky."
An aging figure toward the middle of the procession cleared his throat and asked, "Who lives in the sky that can arrange such gifts?"
* * *
As this discussion went on among the ancients, the Creator smiled gently in his realm, for he relished the possibilities that stemmed from his living creations' newfound awareness of his existence. Once a dialogue was opened up between the realm of the Creator and the realm of the created, there would be no end to the amount of creation—the amount of goodness —that could occur. Indeed, the Creator's vision of a pastoral planet, one devoid of predatory impulses and environmental ignorance, seemed to be well within reach.
And yet, where once the Creator's face was smiling, soon it wore a deep and darkish frown. For one of the Creator's most trusted minions approached him from behind and whispered, "Black holes, my master. The probes are sending us reports about them. They are disrupting many of your plasmonic receivers near the outpost planets."
The Creator turned around, letting his minion see how wide his eyes had grown. The outpost planets along the Outer Edges were uniquely vulnerable to disconnects, for they resided in a corner of space beyond which lay vast stretches of lifelessness.
After a moment of hesitation, the minion went on, "Supernovas, as well. They're jamming the pathways between many messages and our heavenly computers. Accordingly, the heavenly computers cannot use the plasmonic receivers to send good messages back to the carbon-based beings. I believe the plasmonic receiver system will require greater attention on our part."
Because the Creator is not a temperamental being, he sat still upon hearing these words. Indeed, he had known them to be true long before they met his ears.
* * *
The ancients sat upon the sand, their hooded leader at their center, his neck bent back as he aimed his face toward the sky. Words of purity flowed from his lips, yet despite the instincts he had found in his dreams, no heavenly souls were able to receive them:
"If there be a listener above, let me be the speaker. We come to you for many things, and with many questions, yet our first question is the most important one ..."
Many of the followers grew hot with anticipation.
The leader went on, "I ask you now: If we speak, will you listen?
"I ask you: If we make requests, will you honor them?
"If we dream of newness, will our world then be new?"
And the leader spoke many more words upon the sand that night: joyous words, hopeful words, earnest words, gentle words.
Days turned to nights; nights turned to days.
Yet the plasmonic receivers could not receive the ancient leader's words. The words drifted upward, upward, upward, only to vanish like thin white smoke.
Disappointment soon spread throughout the procession of wanderers.
* * *
And so it was that evil was born in the living world. Widespread are the myths that evil consists of menace, hatred, and darkness, but the truth is far more terrifying than that ...
The truth is that pure evil is defined by a lack of compassion. Envision a mind that is entirely numb, a mind that cries, sings, and laughs for no one, not even oneself, and exists only in pursuit of personal satisfaction. More to the point, evil can be envisioned as an open mouth: a thing that seeks only to consume, consume, consume. No songs or laughter emit from such a mouth, for it is far too eager to leave itself clear for consumption.
Because the vast procession of wanderers was cut off from the Creator's plasmonic receivers, they spawned generations of pagan souls—individuals without love in their hearts nor compassion in the spirits. To be sure, these beings engaged in sexual acts with one another (how else, indeed, could they spawn so greatly?) yet this was done for pleasure and pleasure alone. Gone were any thoughts of a higher purpose in life, let alone a higher Creator. In fact, the evil population's first true encounter with the nonphysical realm occurred not as a result of any inner longing for a connection with a higher being, but as a result of more unsettling occurrences ...
* * *
A male named Aloco lived upon a vast red plain with his female companion, Nidja. Like many beings on the Outer Edges at that time, Aloco and Nidja lived far away from any other members of their race. After all, of what use was a sense of community in a world defined by paganism and heartlessness? As it was, Aloco and Nidja barely ever spoke amongst themselves.
On one dark and freezing night, however, Aloco encountered an extremely urgent reason to trade words with his companion.
On a daily basis, after the sun went down, Aloco would venture into the murky forest that lined his resident plain. While in that forest, he would quietly search for snakes and bugs, things that they could use to fill their bellies.
