Compiled and written by J. Vassall Adams, Secretary to the Committee in London, this describes the Ottoman Bank and its affiliate the Banque de Syrie et du Liban immediately after WW2. It appears to be a promotional work for clients and other interested parties. The Ottoman Bank was formed in 1856 by a group of British businessmen interested in Turkey, and by 1863 had become a joint British-French venture based in Constantinople. As of 1948 it had 65 branches, its affiliate 17, a representative office in Greece, and it maintained contacts with global banking systems through offices in London, Manchester, Paris and Marseilles. Part I contains a brief history, followed by sections on Turkey, Cyprus, Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon, Palestine, Sudan, Syria and Transjordan. These include general information on climate, history, population, language, principal towns, etc. The photos show heritage sites and landscapes. Part II contains facts and figures together with information about constitutions, currency, trade etc, in each country. The map shows the branches. The map to the front endpapers includes data on comparative areas and populations. Scarce. N° de ref. del artículo 4587
