This book introduces the reader to the optical switching technology for its application to data centers. In addition, it takes a picture of the status of the technology and system architecture evolution and of the research in the area of optical switching in data center. The book is organized in four parts: the first part is focused on the system aspects of optical switching in intra-data center networking, the second part is dedicated to describing the recently demonstrated optical switching networks, the third part deals with the latest technologies developed to enable optical switching and, finally, the fourth part of the book outlines the future prospects and trends.

Acerca del autor
Dr. Francesco Testa is Principal Researcher at Ericsson Research in Pisa. He received the Engineering degree , summa cum laude, from the University of Rome in 1980. In 1982 he received a scholarship from Fondazione Ugo Bordoni in Rome, for researching on integrated optics. He started working in 1985 at Alcatel-Face Italy on the research of coherent optical systems. He joined Ericsson in Rome in 1991, where he worked on the first demonstrations of WDM transport systems in the framework of the European projects RACE and ACTS. He was later involved in the hardware design and development of transmission and switching equipments for SDH, DECT, Local Multipoint Distribution System (LMDS), GSM and Access networks products. He is currently engaged in the research on optical systems and photonic integrated technologies for 5G and data center networks. He has co-authored many papers in the field of optical communications and he was invited speaker at ECOC 2015 conference in Valencia and at the SPIE Conference on Silicon Photonics and Photonic Integrated Circuits in Brussels in 2012. He holds more than 40 patents. He is the technical coordinator of the IRIS project in the FP7 European Union Framework Program. He has co-authored a chapter of the book Silicon Photonics III edited by Lorenzo Pavesi and David Lockwood, Topics in Applied Physics vol 122 (Springer-Verlag, 2016).
Dr. Lorenzo Pavesi is a Professor of Experimental Physics, director of the Nanoscience Laboratory and head of the Department of Physics at the University of Trento. He received his PhD in Physics in 1990 at the Ecole Polytechnique Federale of Lausanne). He founded the research activity in semiconductor optoelectronics at the University of Trento and started several laboratories of photonics, growth and advanced treatment of materials. He was the first president and founder of the IEEE italian chapter on Nanotechnology. His interests encompass classical and quantum integratedsilicon photonics. He is a frequently invited reviewer, monitor or referee for photonics projects by several grant agencies. He is an author or co-author of more than 400 papers, author of several reviews, editor of more than 20 books (including the successful books Silicon Photonics I,II,III, Topics in Applied Physics, Springer-Verlag), author of 2 books and holds 7 patents. He is chief specialty editor of the section Optics and Photonics of Frontiers in Materials, and in the editorial board of APL Materials and Research Letters in Physics.. In 2010 and 2011 he was elected distinguished speaker of the IEEE- Photonics society. He is a fellow of IEEE and senior member of SPIE. Derecho al desistimiento

Tiene derecho a rescindir este contrato en un plazo de 14 días sin dar ningún motivo.
El periodo de desistimiento vencerá a los 14 días desde que usted, o un tercero que no sea el transportista e indicado por usted, adquiera la posesión física del último bien o del último lote o pieza.
Para ejercer el derecho de desistimiento, complete de forma electrónica y envíe una declaración clara en nuestro sitio web, desde "Mis compras" en "Mi cuenta". Le enviaremos sin demora un acuse de recibo de dicho desistimiento a través de un soporte duradero (por ejemplo, por correo electrónico).
Para cumplir con el plazo de desistimiento, basta con que envíe su comunicación relativa al ejercicio del derecho de desistimiento antes de que venza el periodo de desistimiento.
Efectos del desistimiento
Si rescinde este contrato, le reembolsaremos todos los pagos que hayamos recibido de usted, incluidos los gastos de envío (excepto los gastos adicionales que surjan si elige un tipo de envío que no sea el tipo de envío estándar más económico que ofrecemos).
Podemos hacer una deducción del reembolso por la pérdida de valor de cualquier bien suministrado, si la pérdida es el resultado de una manipulación innecesaria por su parte.
Efectuaremos el reembolso sin demoras indebidas y, a más tardar, 14 días después de que se nos informe de su decisión de rescindir este contrato.
Efectuaremos el reembolso utilizando el mismo medio de pago que utilizó para la transacción inicial, a menos que haya acordado expresamente lo contrario; en cualquier caso, no incurrirá en ningún cargo como resultado de dicho reembolso.
Podremos retener el reembolso hasta que hayamos recibido los bienes o hasta que nos haya presentado una prueba de que los ha devuelto, lo que ocurra primero.
Deberá devolver los bienes o entregarlos a buchversandmimpf2000, Emtmannsberg, BAYE, Germany, +49 09209-2023188, sin demoras indebidas y, en cualquier caso, en un plazo máximo de 14 días a partir del día en que nos comunique su desistimiento del presente contrato. El plazo se cumple si devuelve la mercancía antes de que venza el periodo de 14 días. Tendrá que asumir los gastos directos de devolución de los bienes. Usted solo es responsable de la disminución del valor de los bienes como resultado de una manipulación distinta a la necesaria para establecer la naturaleza, las características y el funcionamiento de los bienes.
Excepciones al derecho de desistimiento
El derecho de desistimiento no se aplica a lo siguiente:
- La entrega de periódicos, diarios o revistas, con la excepción de los contratos de suscripción; y
- El suministro de contenido digital que no se proporcione en un soporte tangible (por ejemplo, en un CD o DVD) si, al hacer el pedido, aceptó que podíamos empezar a entregarlo y que no podría desistir una vez iniciada la entrega.
