Days That Are Done and Pioneering in Southwest Texas
Two accounts of the brave men and women who helped to build a state and nation
The days of the 'Wild West' have become iconic and have made an indelible impression on American culture and in the imaginations of people -young and old- of nations across the globe.
Nevertheless, this turbulent era endured for a comparatively short period of historical time. This special Leonaur edition focusses on the final period of pioneer life on the southwestern frontier after the conclusion of the Civil War and towards the turn of the century. Both titles are nostalgic in their themes as the authors look back upon the extraordinary times and experiences through which they have lived, but the like of which were never to return. So within these pages the reader will find tales of buffalo and antelope hunting, of the great trail herds and their epic journeys across the American wilderness and of the hard-working cowboys and their trusty ponies. Brought back to life are the struggles and perils of everyday ranching on the frontier, brave families, of wild towns and wilder weather, train robbers, killers and the lawmen who brought them to account. Here too are authentic reports the last struggles of the Indian Wars in the region before these remarkable days ultimately gave way to the modern world.
Leonaur editions are newly typeset and are not facsimiles; each title is available in softcover and hardback with dustjacket.
