""An Old English Miscellany"" is a collection of various literary works from the Old English period. The book includes a Bestiary, which is a collection of stories and descriptions of various animals, often with moral or religious lessons attached. It also contains Kentish Sermons, which are religious speeches given in the dialect of Kent, England. Additionally, the book includes the Proverbs of Alfred, a collection of wise sayings attributed to King Alfred the Great, and a selection of religious poems from the thirteenth century. The source of many of our common proverbs will be recognized among these early illustrations of Proverbial Philosophy. There is also the XI Pains of Hell. Religious Songs contain later versions of some of the pieces in Cotton Ms. as well as the poem of the Owl and Nightingale. When Holy Church is Under Foot is a lament on the decadence of the Church. Annals of England and the fragment on the Ten Commandments has been added because of its resemblance to the language of the Story of Genesis and Exodus.This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
