This is a very nice old Victorian photo album containing photos of a trip to Australia and the United States in 1885-1888 calling at Malta, the Suez Canal, Ceylon, an Hawaii on route the album is bound in an old half leather binding, 12 inches tall, containing eighty five photographs, most are captioned, the ones that are dated are all dated 1885 some are large full page photographs, other pages have 2-4 photos per page, one photo is loose the album starts with three photographs of Valetta in Malta taken on October 17th 1885, then one of the Suez Canal taken on October 22nd 1885, then four full page photos of Colombo in Ceylon taken on November 5th 1885 the next batch of photos are taken in Australia, with photos of Melbourne, Bourke Street, Government House, Melbourne Mint, The Library, The Law Courts, Menzies Hotel, The Town Hall, the Town hall Organ, Freeway buildings, Queen?s Wharf with ships, The Esplanade St Kilda Melbourne, Swimming Baths at St Kilda, Sydney Harbour, Sydney looking across the harbour to the Town Hall & Cathedral, Government House & Gardens, Sydney, North Head Sydney view of sailing ship, the Blue Mountains, a harbour near Sydney, the Blue Mountains at Katoomba, Tasmania, The River Derwent, near Hobart, New Norfolk Tasmania, summit of Mount Wellington Tasmania, New South Wales, Bridge over the River Darling near Bourke, Bulli New South Wales, Wollongong Harbour NSW, Crown Street Wollongong, Five Islands Wollongong, Fairies Creek & Mount Keira Wollongong, Kiama Harbour NSW, Nine Photographs of the Jenolan Caves in the Blue Mountains, new South Wales Waterfall on Fish River near the Jenolan caves, Fiztroy Falls NSW, Sydney harbour, Fort Denison, another fort at Port Macquarie, The Exhibition building Sydney, a view of Sydney from Pyrmont, The University, Double Bay Sydney, Queen Victoria?s statue at Sydney, Tram on Elizabeth Street, Hyde Park Sydney, a busy scene at Circular Quay Sydney, another busy scene on one of the main streets, a view of Sydney from the observatory, the next three photos are taken in Honolulu Hawaii in June 1888, including a busy scene taken outside the Kings Palace, then from Hawaii to the United States with six photographs of San Francisco the two photos in Colorado, Pike?s Peak, and another of the Railway on the River Arkansas, then to Niagara Falls with a full page photo taken at the top of the falls on June 17th 1888 Then to New York, with a photo of a busy scene on Broadway with trolley?s, another of the Elevated Railway, a photo of New York Harbour with The Statue of liberty in the distance, a photo of the Brooklyn Bridge, then onto Philadelphia with an elevated view of the city, another photo at Philadelphia of Fairmount Park from Broad Street Railway Station, and finally a full page photo of Philadelphia from the river Delaware CONDITION the binding is worn with cracking to leather joints though boards holding well, very noticeable discolouration to the cloth, internally noticeable foxing to pages, the photos are not noticeably affected, a few mild marks, else most of contents are pictured so condition can be seen unfortunately there is no obvious indication in the album of its original owner A VERY NICE PHOTOGRAPH ALBUM RECORDING THREE YEARS OF TRAVEL ON A GRAND TOUR OF MALTA, CEYLON, AUSTRALIA, HAWAII AND THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
