Includes a prefatory quotation by Anthony Trollope. Illustrated with full-page tinted plates by Sidney Gardner. A decorative Edwardian gift-book edition of Thackeray’s travel sketch from the Roundabout Papers, combining his prose with Gardner’s atmospheric illustrations and elegant small-format book production. Printed by William Brendon & Son, Ltd., Plymouth. The narrative first appeared in The Cornhill Magazine, volume II, pp. 623–640, under the fuller title “A Roundabout Journey; Notes of a Week’s Holiday.” It was a travel essay published in one issue, rather than a novel serialized over several months. Contents clean with light, even toning. Plates bright and well preserved. Binding remains sound and square. Cloth and gilt exceptionally fresh, with minimal shelf wear.
