- Libro 1 de 1: The Next Right Step: How to Move Forward at Midlife When You Look Successful But Feel Stuck
It is 5:47 a.m. on a Wednesday. You are in a kitchen. The role that defined you for twenty years is over. Everything in your life works.
Why does the room feel empty?
The Next Right Step is for adults at midlife who have done everything they were supposed to do and arrived at a place that should feel like enough — and doesn't.
You are not in crisis. You are not depressed. You are in the much more common, much less talked-about state of having lost the structure that organized your forward motion, without yet having found the next one. The bills are paid. The kids are fine. The career has been a career. Something underneath, however, has stopped.
This book makes the case that forward motion in adult life does not run on inspiration, passion, or motivation. It runs on obligation — to specific people, in specific places, on a daily cadence that the wellness industry has spent twenty years trying to talk you out of using.
The architecture of the book is three channels of service:
• Serve the work. Find the duty under the title you wore. Take it to a new venue. • Serve the community.Build something local that lasts. • Serve the future you. Commit to the version of yourself who does not yet exist.
Three channels, held together by a daily practice (one card, one action, before 10 a.m.) and a weekly audit (five minutes, three numbers, one decision about where the hour goes). The system is engineered for adults who have stopped being able to move forward on inspiration alone — which is to say, most adults past forty.
By the time you finish reading, you will have moved.
Written for:
• Executives whose role just ended or is about to • Empty-nest parents who are not sure what comes next • Founders who sold the company and feel strangely hollow • Retirees who thought they would love this and don't • Anyone in their forties, fifties, or sixties who is, by every external measure, fine — and quietly carrying the question of what the rest of the years are for
About the author:
Robby Allen is a former Marine Corps officer and F/A-18 pilot. After leaving active duty, he transitioned into the defense industry, founded a youth lacrosse league in his community, and completed a doctoral program in his early fifties — not for the credential, but for the version of himself he wanted to be at sixty-five. He lives in Northeast Florida with his wife and three children. He is still in motion.
You don't have to feel ready. You just have to take the next right step. Tomorrow, take it again.
