Acerca del autor: Phil Porter was born and raised in Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan and as a boy spent summers on Mackinac Island. He worked as a tour guide at Fort Mackinac while pursuing academic studies at Kenyon College (B.A. 1974) and at the State University of New York, Cooperstown Graduate Program in History Museum Studies (M.A. 1980).

Phil joined the permanent staff of Mackinac State Historic Parks in 1976 and has served as curator of collections, curator of interpretation, and currently, as chief curator.

Author of numerous books and articles, he lives with his wife Valerie and family in Cheboygan in the winter and on Mackinac Island in the summer.
