This book seeks to understand the contradictions that emanate from, on the one hand, the institutionalization of human rights among imperial nation-states and global governmental bodies and, on the other, the growing embrace of human rights logics and languages by women and men who are struggling for justice across the world.

This book was published as a special issue of the International Feminist Journal of Politics.
