CHAPTER 1
My purpose
It is my great pleasure to provide you with a myriad of methods and techniques to accomplish your goals. You will discover techniques that allow you to release worn-out old behavior patterns that no longer serve you well. You will learn to experience freedom from feelings of failure and disappointment. You will replace these with feelings of deserving the best that life has to offer. You will accept in mind that you are special. You will accept into mind that you are ready to experience total fulfillment in all areas of your life.
As we progress with this program, we move into an action plan. Here we receive a full explanation of the process that Will take you from where you are to where you desire to be in life
A positive attitude is mandatory. A positive attitude will not fix a broken car. It will however provide you with a new way of looking at it, and the possibilities to have it repaired more clearly.
You must believe in yourself and your ability to succeed. Many people have never had the opportunity or the desire to put themselves first. They consider it selfish to do so. The truth is, when you spend time improving yourself, everyone who comes in contact with you benefits.
We have never had a good leader who hasn't taken the time to develop and hone their skills before they became a leader. It is time to dispel the idea that putting yourself first for a change is a bad one.
There is an old expression; "If you don't know where you are going, any road will get you there. I hope this book will provide some insight to take you in the direction for your best and highest good to take place in your life.
Introduction to Meditation
Life provides us with challenges on a daily basis. Meditation is a process to calm you down. It is a pathway to better understanding. It is a technique that provides multiple benefits.
Meditation is a powerful tool for behavior change. It is a terrific stress buster. It has a healing component. You can feel tremendous relief when through the use of meditation you are set free from past hurts, failures and disappointment.
Learning how to work smart, not hard; for personal achievement, happiness, love, success etc. is what makes this process pleasant and beneficial.
Meditation is a form of relaxation. There are a multitude of reasons people choose to use meditation. Likewise, there are many methods people choose. Some people choose to use meditation to just free flow mentally, and let their minds run wild. I personally do not. I have learned enough about the mind that to me it is not a good idea. You might decide otherwise.
I believe that meditation is a tool. I believe this tool provides avenues to many benefits. I believe you can absolutely improve all areas of your life when you apply the combination of meditation, affirmations, and visualization. Begin living your life by direction and no longer by accident with this process today.
Meditation is often used to tap our inner Christ consciousness. (Building your connection to your God, as you see him.) Who can use meditation? Anyone who can concentrate and think creatively can experience the benefits of meditation. You move easily from thought to thought in a meditation. There are many descriptions of what meditation is.
With meditation, we let the reasoning, planning, thinking mind relax.
We allow all that inner voice within us to reveal truth of our being.
We allow our inner guidance to lead us. It directs and guides us. It helps us bring more and more good into our life.
Meditation is often used with prayer, and considered a form of prayer.
It can be called "Thinking in the presence of God."
We use meditation for a myriad of reasons. It always applies to techniques to deal with our inner-self.
We experience perfect peace, perfect love of God, through applying this process and techniques.
Meditation does not require any specific belief. It is not a destination. It is a journey.
I believe the purpose of meditation is self-realization and awareness. While we meditate we receive visions of the truth for us. It is not strictly an intellectual event. It is not strictly an emotional event. It is not suppression. It is not passive activity. It involves it all.
Meditation can hardly be explained by words alone. We have the ability to transform our life when we use it.
The goal of creative meditation is spiritual. We have a three part nature. We are physical beings. We are emotional beings. We have a spiritual being. It is essential that our spiritual self is utilized during meditation.
I believe meditation is only effective when used mindfully. I am not one to promote mindless meditation.
Meditation by some interpretations is a turning of our mental and physical self to the spiritual self.
Meditation allows us to be free. I am talking about freedom from unnecessary stress. We become free from anything that blocks or hinders our inner creative forces from surfacing in a way where we experience life to the fullest.
During meditation we learn to put aside physical and mental things. We allow ourselves to relax into a wonderful state of inner calm. Here we feel love, peace, and joy. It was a whole new experience for me. My life was so hard. My stress level was very high. Maybe it is that way for you. Know that you have the power to change that. You already have the tools.
While we're meditating it is possible to receive answers to questions that might have been bothering you for a long time. While we're meditating we allow our creativity to come through.
Imagery and meditation
Sit comfortably in a chair, in a place where you will not be disturbed.
Take a deep breath. Read each one of the following ideas one by one. Close your eyes. Become aware of images from each item in your mind. You develop visualizing skills this way.
1. Can you taste your favorite ice cream?
2. Can you smell fresh bread baking?
3. Can you feel a rose in your hand? Can you smell it?
4. Imagine a lake at sunrise.
5. Imagine the same lake at sunset.
6. Can you see sunrise over the ocean?
7. Can you see sunset over the ocean?
8. Can you visualize yourself walking through an area surrounded by trees?
9. Can you look up and see streaks of sunshine through the trees?
10. Can you imagine a sunrise?
11. Can you see yourself having fun with those close to you?
*now that you have begun thinking about the meditational process, you will have ideas of your own to assist you in deeper visualization. Relaxation at its best is yours.
Metaphysics
Metaphysics is an application where we rise above a situation or thing. It is a process. We bring those things we desire into a reality through our thought process. It is not voodoo. We use our God-given gifts, and positive ways to achieve positive goals.
Focus on what you desire to have. Get a clear picture in your mind. Learn to identify with it. Know that it is yours. I began my business in La Jolla on a wing and a prayer. I knew I did not have a desk. I wrote out an affirmation that the perfect desk for me was appearing in my office. I did my relaxation exercises. I pictured a desk in my office. I allowed myself to accept that idea in mind. Not one, not two, but 3 desks appeared for me. They were all gifts. They came from various sources. Open your mind to your own possibilities.
Meditation provides access to all of the creative forces.
The process of meditation is to be applied creatively to whatever it is you seek. What do you desire? Your interests change. Your circumstances of life change. Your creative visualization improves. Your desires change. Meditation changes your life when you use it. This allows you to grow and develop into all you can be. It allows you to become all you desire to be.
No special talent or ability is required in order for you to use your creative meditation. The only thing that it requires from you is learning how to apply it. It requires practice. Imagine a rock at the ocean. The water hits it over, and over, as the waves roll in. Over time, it changes the shape of the rock. Repetition is a key to success. Tap. Tap. Tap.
Think of a rubber band stretched under one side of a rock. You are pulling that rubber band. At first, there is a lot of resistance. Once you get to a certain point, the rock begins to move. That is how behavior change takes place. At first there might be resistance. Your mind is used to you as you are today. It does not understand why you are making changes. It resists. Tap. Tap. Tap. The resistance diminishes as the old self goes away, and the new one takes its place.
Let's get started by setting the tone
I was born and raised on Nantucket Island, Massachusetts. When I was a child, the island was very different than it is today. I grew up in the 50s. The population on the island has swelled. The type of visitors has changed. The island is one of the most famous wedding destinations. Development of the island has changed it considerably. The one thing that has remained consistent is the beauty of this island.
Nantucket visualization style meditations come easy because of this beauty.
The beaches are varied. People come from all over the world to enjoy them.
One can get lost in meditation of the Jetties Beach. You walk in very shallow waters on the right side of the beach. There are sandbars. You can see the markings in the sand below the water that the ocean movement has made. Shells glisten on the sand beneath the water. The water is clear. You might be in water that is only ankle deep. Gentle waves touch the shore on this side of the beach. You hear soft sounds with the rustle of the water from these gentle waves. The sun glistens off the water. The sandbar is reached with simply taking 40 or 50 steps from the shore through shallow water. Can't you just see it?
The steamship, the high speed boats, personal luxury crafts, and sailboats appear to be close to land on this side of the Jetties. The deep water line shows in a sharp contrast to the shallow water in a line that is distinctive. The color is deeper. Look off to the right and you will see
Brant Point. All vessels go around the Brant Point lighthouse to piers and landings.
On the other side of the breakers at the Jetties, water isn't as calm. You can go much deeper into the water with just a few steps. The waves are slightly stronger. The waves hit the shore more strongly here. They crash up onto the sand and roll back out to sea. You can hear the sound of the many small shells being shuffled by this power in each wave. It makes interesting sounds. Many of us are familiar with these sounds. We have been to the ocean often.
Dionis beach has its distinctive qualities. It was a place I personally remember for the special occasion parties we had as kids. My uncle would pile all of us into his pickup truck. He would drive right onto the beach. We would have a bon fires. We would be there way past dusk. It was a fun time. This area of the island has larger dunes. The beach grass is very thick but so beautiful. It has the background of sky and ocean while you climb up the dunes to the beach.
Can't you just imagine the white sand, the Kelly green blades of grass, the clear blue sky, and sun glistening off the water? This area was more secluded when I was young. There was a bit of a climb through the dunes to get to the beach. Our feet would sink into the soft sand. The sand was so soft that often our feet would sink all the way up to our ankles. Can you imagine that?
Surfside is my favorite beach at this time. We were not allowed to go there when I was a child. There was a huge undertow. We were always warned about that as children. We were told it was dangerous. One could get swallowed up. We didn't have lifeguards there years ago.
There are long and flat stretches of beach to both the left and to the right. Nantucket has beautiful white sand on all of the beaches. Surfside beach has become very popular these days.
Madaket, and Cisco beaches, are two other picturesque areas many have come to enjoy. Each of these beaches has their own different appearances and atmosphere. Madaket has a small bridge on the two lane road. You can see a pond on one side. There is ocean on the other. You can get lost in a meditation with images of either side. If you are more relaxed with a vision of a harbor and the small boats gently rocking with the waves, you would enjoy the harbor side. If a lake or pond would enhance your meditation even more, than the pond would be the image you would choose to hold on to.
Cisco has become popular with surfers. It has stronger waves. Surfers frequent this beach.
Children's beach is very small. It is where we had clambakes years ago. The ground would be dug up in a long deep trench, and cooking took place in the ground. We had our fairs there. There were no additional things here. It was just sand and water. Now, it has been built up. There is playground equipment. There is a snack bar. Movies are shown there in the evenings. Bands play there for folk's enjoyment from time to time. Trees have been planted. There are benches and picnic tables where one can sit and relax. It has a good sized grassy area. You have a full view of the harbor. This could enhance any meditation where you are focusing on joy and happiness.
It would be easy to write an entire chapter on the beaches of Nantucket, and the beauty of each. Meditational concepts and visualization of each of these beaches brings any ocean lover to a wonderful level of relaxation.
Nantucket has so many little dirt roads that will bring you right down to the water. They are tucked away. You have to look for them. You can be alone with yourself.
I have been blessed to enjoy the beauty of the moors on the island. In certain areas one can see for miles. There are so many colors in the fall when leaves change. There are many secluded areas with tiny access roads, where one can be alone with their thoughts. Some of these areas have pine trees. Other areas have a variety of trees and vegetation that could be used as a visual for meditation. We have grapes that grow wild on the island. We have wild blackberries. We have wild blueberries. We have bayberries growing wild. One can get lost in images of abundance of the nature here. What type of nature scenes do you choose to reflect on where you are? It is your choice. We each find our own visuals to enhance our relaxation and meditational processes.
We had a large fire on the island. I planted some of the pine trees along the roads with the other scouts as a project. These trees are now large and beautiful. They have replaced the trees lost in the fire. Positive memories you have of your childhood can be utilized while meditating.
I, personally, truly enjoy a beautiful tree. One can get lost in the way the breezes move the leaves, the branches etc. Sunlight filtering through the branches is another visual to enhance the process.
There are glorious visions over the ponds all around the island. These visions are especially beautiful at sunrise and dusk. The water is so very calm. The sunsets are beautiful. They are not obscured by tall buildings, or neon lights. Some of the lakes, or ponds as we call them, have beautiful swans lazily floating along. They do not appear to be in any hurry to go anywhere. They demonstrate a vision of absolute calmness. This is another example of visions you can use to attain a wonderful meditation.
There is a surprisingly large variety of beautiful birds on the island. Bird watchers come here from all around the world to observe them. Deer can be seen from the roadside at times.
Many beautiful window boxes meticulously put together are all over the island. I do not know why, but flowers on the island appear more vivid in color than anywhere else, at least to me. Do you love flowers? The colors appear to have a different scheme each year. Some years they are red, white, and blue. Some years they tend to be pink, white, etc. Imaging flowers lends itself to wonderfully relaxing meditations. I must mention that the color red should be avoided in a meditation. It is a color of activity.
Nantucket is the only place I have ever lived, where traffic has to stop to allow a mama duck, and her babies, slowly stroll across the road. Traffic stops in both directions. There are never horns blown. No one complains or yells about the holdup. All of these things enhance any meditational experience. You find what works for you and choose for yourself.
Finding your personal place to meditate
Do you know where you would find the perfect place for you to meditate? Have you ever taken the time to give that a thought?
It might be easier for you to actually physically visit a special place to relax in the beginning. Choose a place where you can be alone with yourself. This could be a challenge. Have you ever taken time for yourself this way? The rewards of doing this far outweigh any downside.
a. Recognize that you need, and deserve this time.
b. Make a conscious decision to take that time that you have chosen each day.
c. Reinforce in your own mind that we all need moments alone. We need it to clear our minds. We need it to focus on what we need or desire for happiness and success.
d. Know that you need this time to maintain balance in your life.
