Descripción del artículo del vendedor

First and only edition. 2 volumes bound as one. Incomplete: Lacking title page to Vol. I. frontis and final 3 pages of the list of subscribers [Altogether 4 leaves]. Thick heavy 4to. 10 ¼ x 8 ¾ inches. 3 inches thick. Heavy: Weight 5.7 lbs. Bound in a sturdy late 19th century ¾ Morocco over marbled boards. Spine in compartments, gilt lettered. Rubbed at corners and edges. Grammar of the English Language is bound at the beginning of the volume rather than the end of volume II as found in other copies. Leaves toned, preliminary and final leaves stained with tide marks to fore and lower margins but in very good condition printed on thick laid paper. p. k-k1 of vol. II are partially stuck (glued) together (see image). Ss2 of vol II. With a chip to lower margin, affecting a few words. Top inner corner of subscribers list torn with loss of paper. Final leaf with an old repair to foremargin, shaving a few letters. Not perfect but a very solid, near complete example of this rare dictionary represented in only a handful of collections. Good. [Due to size and weight, extra shipping will apply] A controversial English dictionary from the start. Charles Marriott was accused of plagiarizing most of Frederick Barlow's 1772 edition of "The Complete English Dictionary". Here, he confronts the British royalty, foreigners, Methodists, the pope and others. ESTCT91560 [Dictionary-English].…
