Print on Demand. This book recounts the author's experiences and observations while visiting Rome to better understand Catholicism and its adherents. Spending time with Jesuits, attending religious services, and speaking with priests, the author dives into the beliefs and practices of the Catholic Church. Beyond the historical and artistic significance of Rome, the author was given access to ceremonies and events normally closed to tourists, allowing a deeper look into Catholicism's sacred traditions and rituals. The author explores the differences between Anglican and Catholic practices, compares the two churches' positions on the nature of original sin and the power of absolution, and examines Catholicism's reverence for Mary. This book offers readers a rare opportunity to engage with Catholicism from the inside, lending insight into its theological views and practices. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…

I dealt with all frankness with these several gentle men, as to the object of their Visit. They were under the impression, which they were at no pains to conceal, that I was disposed favorably towards their Church that I was one of those Anglican clergymen, who neither understand nor love the Church of England, and who, in a restless dissatisfaction and love of change, are pre pared to abandon her communion for that of Rome, and who only wait a little encouragement and per haps instruction, before taking the last step. I was very careful to undeceive them, stating that I should be most happy to confer with them on the differences bec tween the two Churches, but that I could not do so under a false colour, - that I was devotedly attached in judgment and in feeling to the Church of England, that I looked on her as the Church of God in England, and the most pure, most apostolic, most scriptural of all the churches of Christendom, - that, without unchurching other churches, she was still the church of my judgment and of my affections and that I had never for a moment harboured the thought of abandoning her for any other church, and especially for the Church of Rome.
My new friends, for such their subsequent conduct proved them to he, seemed surprised at the decision of my opinions; and expressed their wonder, that I could refuse to hold communion with the Church of Rome.
