"Who am I? It’s a simple question, until suddenly nobody knows the answer...least of all me!"
Just ask Sam, an ordinary person who woke up one day to find their life has become an out-of-control freight train of missed-taken identities, improvisational deceptions, and rapidly escalating chaos. It all started when Sam was mistakenly accused of being a notorious criminal mastermind known as "The Artiste" by an overzealous crew of art thieves. Despite Sam’s desperate attempts to set the record straight, the crooks are convinced their elusive leader is simply playing an elaborate ruse.
And just like that, a wildly insane spiral is set off - one where Sam becomes a lightning rod of improbable misunderstandings and baffling impostor accusations. Suddenly multiple factions from rival gangs to undercover agents to deluded bystanders are united in the belief that Sam is somebody else...it’s just that nobody can agree on exactly who that "somebody else" actually is!
With their once-ordinary life in the rearview mirror, Sam has no choice but to lean into the accidental con and embark on a tour-de-force of panicked improvisations, juggling one wildly varied "guest starring" persona after another. One minute they’re playing the criminal genius Artiste, the next they’re bluffing as an undercover spy, then they’re inhabiting an absurdist philosopher’s cryptic ramblings, then they’re embodying a tough-talking gangster, then a hapless civilian, and on and on the dizzying spiral goes.
Narrated through Sam’s chameleon-like lens, this satirical comedy is a laugh-a-minute thrill ride that revels in the farcical friction between their bumbling straight-man persona and the heightened criminal worlds they continuously find themselves embroiled within. As Sam’s tangled web of deceptions threatens to unravel in each frantic chapter, the desperate improv and breathless pace keep the laughs and whiplash of identities constantly spinning.
Written with a furiously witty splendor, chockfull of rapid-fire slapstick, crackling dialogue, and go-for-broke character work, this audacious novel answers the ultimate comedic question - what happens when you become the epicenter of a calamitous collision of mistaken identity after mistaken identity? The answer is pure, farcical mayhem that will leave you gasping for air...and another hilarious persona!
