In marketing The Milky Way, David conducted a simple survey asking believers (not recent converts) if they could list, and if so, elucidate about Christ’s six basic teachings. 90% of believers surveyed were unable to list one, let alone provide an example of the teaching working in their life. Surprising, since these teachings (doctrines) are clearly listed in Hebrews 6:1-3. David was astonished, but also spurred to get The Milky Way to market. The need is great!
He began pressing believers about their core beliefs and found many had never thought deeply about it—they followed whatever was presented from a pulpit or modern commentary. The 10% who did know Christ’s six basic teachings were split between two groups. 1) Some seemed to have received a disjointed smattering of relative instruction—helpful. 2) Others firmly latched onto the underpinning nature of the doctrines of Christ—better. These are what David calls, awake believers.
