Hermann Knackfuß (Knackfuss in modern spelling) was a German painter and art historian from Wissen, in Rhenish Prussia. His paintings were highly valued in his day, and his written works on art history were esteemed . This is Knackfuß' famous book on Michelangelo Buonarotti, issued as Vol. IV of Künstler - Monographien Series, published in 1908 by Velhagen & Klafsing in Bielefeld and Leipzig. The monograph covers all of the important works by Michelangelo : his murals and ceilings, his paintings and sculptures, as well as a goodly selection of his drawings. The remainder of the front is covered by cream -colored cloth with the title embossed in gilt. Top edge gilt. Originally issued with a slip-case, which is no longer present. *********************************** CONDITION - GOOD PLUS - Previously owned, and showing wear, but still clean and serviceable, with the following noted :: EXTERIOR -- Fraying to spine extremities; bumps to corner tips with attendant creasing; modest surface rub - the cream colored part of the binding displays light smudging. Gilt embellishment and title are bright BINDING -- Solid . no leaves are detached or loose. INTERIOR -- A few leaves have minute loss to bottom corner tips - else clean and presentable throughout. There is a penciled gift inscription at the top of the half-title "From Grandma Barttuchausen (?) Nov. 1909". N° de ref. del artículo 1600
